1917 Enfield eddystone action

I picked-up this action on GunBroker a few weeks back. I really didn't think
I'd win the auction ,but since I did I figured maybe I could clean it up a bit and make a few bucks to go towards a complete rifle. The rear sight-ears
have been milled off and who ever did this did a very professional job. I reblued it with " Mark Lee Express Blue #1 ". You apply the blueing and boil the parts for around 30 minutes, card it , and reblue until the desired darkness is achieved.I blued the parts 2 times. WOW! I've allways been a coldblue guy but this stuff is great. I'm keeping the action and going to build a rifle out of this one. Now I have to make a pan long enough to blue
a barrel in. I think I've decided to rebarrel it with a 30.06 barrel. Check out the before and after pics.

That's a great looking M1917 action and a great looking bluing job too. I remember years back seeing some great looking sporters in 7mm Remington Magnum with those same actions. Personally, I think your plan to install a .30-06 barrel is the way to go.

Looks like you got it dialed in. Nice blue job too I have only done cold bluing, but this looks nice, and I might have to check this type of bluing out. Nice air hockey table too

did you buy it on the day time changed ,I tryed to bid on an action that looked just like it then , if thats it you got a good buy should make a great sporter , congrats always loved those 1917 enfields ,oh by the way drill and tap before you barrel it , usually cheaper if a smith does it without a ,30-06 , 270 , 280 , 25-06 , 35 whelen and the list goes on , all good for moose to mice good luck with your build jrh55

Herter's used to sell a "blue" that worked like the one you describe. Worked pretty well too, much more durable than the cold stuff.
