new Buckeye Hills Range

I went to the Buckeye hills range today for the first time. I was impressed. They have done an outstanding job at that site. The Buckeye Sportsman's club is running it and they were all pleasant and nice (unlike that range north of Phoenix - yeah, Ben Avery).
Shot my AR build for the first time and it did great. It's in 5.45 X 39 and I was surprised how accurate it was.
Also shot my Nagant pistol for the first time. Wow, what a trigger pull. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but I bet it was at least 20 lbs in double action. Took every thing I could give to shoot it double action. But it was still fun after I got used to the trigger.
Try out the range when you get a chance.

Glad ya had a good time. What kind of a set up do they have, like types of ranges and any long range stuff? How about trap, skeet or sporting clays?

They have a nice range out to 200 yds. I didn't see any skeet or clays, but I wasn't really looking.

What are the x-roads to this new range? I've never had an issue with Ben Avery. The range officers get a bit over zelous at times but given some of the yahoos that show up I can see why. That said it's a pain to get into at times and I'm willing to try new spots.

If you are going west on I-10, take 85 south towards Gila Bend. Once you pass the Gila River it's about 8 miles south of the bridge on the right (called the Buckeye Recreation area).

My friend and I went to the range today and I was talking about the same thing. Range safety is important, but sometimes at Ben Avery, I think they just like being jerks.

I live close to avery, but you are right about being a little to power loving out there. This one idiot in charge starts every morning out about "DO NOT PICK SOMEONE ELSE'S BRASS." If someone asks you for your brass, tell them "NO THAT YOU WANT TO DONATE IT TO THE SHOOTING RANGE." I asked them when they started this and they said it has always been like that. I'be been going there since 1962 and I finally heard about this rule 47 years later and at least a thousand trips to shoot. I've also picked up tens of thousand of someone elses brass cases. I'll keep going there because it is conveinent, but I would like it a whole lot better if that one dude got a real job.

Hilarious. Some little range boss dude gave me a ton of attitude for this "rule" when I picked up a single case to see what it was. I had already dropped the case (because I was only looking at what it was) but I still had to get a quick lecture full of attitude.
