SightNSqueeze - I was at Camp Taji but We spent a lot of time in the Camp Liberty tent city. That was one of our main runs. Our last night there we were running with a green LT. He got our start time delayed by 2 hours and we had to just sit out there on our trucks and wait. Right as we were mounting up to roll out we saw the Phalanx go off right overhead and miss a 61mm mortar. It hit over behind the Liberty East PX. What a send off!

DesertRaider - I got to see a few of Blackwater's Little Birds while I was there. Those guys were crazy! Man, they were flying fast! and low altitude in the daylight too. They were South of Baghdad though and it's not as dangerous there in the daytime as it is at night.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and for all the thoughts and prayers for all our troops.

I ETS in 2011 but I figure I'll re-up. The thought of working in a regular civilian job again makes me feel queezy. I interviewed for a Range Operations NCO job yesterday. It's with my unit so I feel pretty good about it.

Welcome back! Glad you're safe and whole

Oh, and tell me you have pics of an MRAP. I don't know why, but I love those things.

Rockh0und...I clearly remember you before your "journey" to Iraq. We talked about collecting rocks, hunting in North central Arkansas, and more. I'd enjoy meeting you again over in the "chat" forum.

BTW, during the week of March 7-14 I flew commercially in and out of Dallas/Ft Worth Airport twice. On one of those layovers my wife and I were fortunate to witness one of the most amazing shows of gratitude any American could witness. For at least ten to fifteen minutes soldiers like yourself dressed in camo and carrying their bags walked through the overhead balcony above us as they were either arriving or departing.

Suddenly one civilian on the lower level started clapping as they moved above us, then two and then more and more until absolutely everyone of the hundreds or thousands of us witnessing these men and women who were serving in the armed forces for America.

I'll admit that this scenario caused me to swell up in pride out of admiration at what they had done...or were going to do...and almost gave me uncontrollable goose bumps for them serving their time, giving their lives, and more on our behalf.

I would like to believe that you were one of those young men who we appauded that day at the Dallas/Ft Worth Airport.

Thumbs up

Tom, This was totally a spontaneous show of appreciation to the soldiers. It was great to see them moving along the balcony with their duffle bags, and enjoying themselves as they looked downward at all of us clapping for them from the lower floor.

Sure, they were from America's all volunteer military...but they've put their lives at stake on our behalf. What more could we have asked them to do. Whatever each one did was very much appreciated.

Glad you're back, cuzin. Take care of those honey do's and give her a little extra for a while. She's served also, and deserves a medal also. Good luck.
