I think I have a 1908

If anyone could help me identify this rifle and determine it's value, it would be appreciated!!

I have the opportunity to buy what I an told is a Springfield 1908. The gun has had scope mounts I believe glued over the only identifying marks I can find. These marks are appear under the front mount and I think my say US Patton Pending? All I can see it the top of US and letter P on the side, US property maybe? Under that is the number 336##20. On the bolt release it clearly has the words ON and Off. In the off position I can see a R on the release. On the bolt it's self there is a D 3.

Any idea what this is or how I can determine what it is worth? Thanks!!!!
