Mossberg 500 Mariner Jamming

I haven't seen this particular issue on the forum, but if it is a repeat, apologies in advance.

I just purchased a new Mariner 500 and tried to shoot a box of buckshot out of it. After each shot the gun jams. At first I thought it was me, stiff-arming the pump action. But it jams even without my hand on the pump slide...after each shot the slide won't pull back without about 5 minutes of yanking on it (!) I also notice the slide release button is pushed all the way in during each jam. Anyway, anyone have any ideas, or should I just send this one back to Mossberg? Thanks.........

Send it back to the factory!! It could be a couple of things, butt stock screw too long, safety issue, issue with bolt, shell transport or trigger group. I have seen this with 590s class III (14"bbls & shortened stocks.) New out of box they would jam or knock the safeties half way or completely to safe. When I called the factory they told me that it was most likely poorly installed parts. They went back and came back fixed, no explaination

my guess is just poor quality control on the fitting of all of the moving parts in general. I have owned many mossbergs including the 590 mariner.

These guns are NOT junk, matter of fact all of mine have had a tight fit throught he action at first and has required some good ol fashioned break in to loosen up. I think yours is just a bit too tight is all. Send it back. If you attempt to repair it yourself, (and i bet you could), you will void any warranty. Just send her in. Besides, in the event I am wrong you would at least want to know that your firearm is functining in a safe manner.

Disassembling, thouroughly cleaning and looking for abvious issues like sticky motion in the shell elevator, or looking inside the bolt to see that it is lubed properly....etc... you get the idea...well that doesnt void any warranty. Also, when the trigger assembly is out, go ahead and operate it by hand a few times...check everything, clean and lube it, and just see what you got!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Thanks everybody - I appreciate the info! I have, indeed as you might have guessed, dissassembled, cleaned and so on; everything works great. At the range the same thing happens. So, I will indeed give it a final cleaning and send it back to Mossberg. I really appreciate the info from all of you - it just gives me a lot more confidence in the gun. Have a great weekend, and I will let you know how it turns out!
Thanks again........................

Good job. Sorry to hear you will have to send it in, but you will have peace of mind and a properly working shotgun in the end.
