Lightbulb The two most dangerous...

Howdy,

It occurs to me the two most dangerous saying in the world are-

"It's for the children"

and

"In the name of God." (Budda/Allah/Insert Deity here)

Talking Wild assumptions rule the day!

Howdy!

You got it!

The Spanish Inquisition was in the name of God. The Cruisades were in the name of God. Both sides in Ireland are supporting their arguments in the name of God. A middle eastern airline with an arabic pilot went down a few years back, the pilot was yelling, "In the name of Allah!" The Jihad is in the name of Allah. People who hide behind God, and commit heinous acts of brutality and cause mass suffering in the name of God, or Allah etc are invoking one of the most dangerous phrases known to man.

Lesser crimes against humanity are often played out by those hiding behind God, or doing things in "The name of God" The (former?) Reverend Jim Baker. Several Catholic Priests who have been in the news lately. I am sure you can think of a few Religious types who have used their relationship with God as a facade to lie cheat and steal from ordinary people.

And I am sure we can all figure out "It's for the children" based on the story about the anti war nicks trotting out the kids, or the Anti Abortion people having children hold those horrible photos and banners along side the road.

(I actually agree with the Pro-Life argument, but I see the sign holders as very extreme and admonish them for using their own kids as pawns. These stunts do little other than to further poarize the issue and curry favor toward the pro-choice baby killers)

That was all, just me thinkin...............

ohhh, got that one

We also hear a this line commonly used .... "swearing on the grave of whoever" just to get out of trouble or just to justify a lie made.

Some people tend to claim that something's "in the name of God" or "God's will" in order to make people feel guilty for disagreeing. If only these people took a look at God's Word to see what His will really is...
After spending years in a Charismatic school, the three most irritating words are "God told me..." used in an arguement.
Of course God most definitely speaks, but it's usually to us for His purposes, and not to our neighbors through us for our purposes.
