You're in a catch22 as a male officer dealing with a female suspect. If you have to you force, it is easy to under estimate their strength. Females often think that the officer wont use force against them due to their sex, and as a result become very agressive aginst the male officer. The officer does not want to "over do it" against her, and it can get out of control quickly. I learned a valuable lesson yesterday.

Number1* how did she get out of a moving vehicle? You said, something about why does a woman want to jump out of a moving vehicle with handcuffs on. I am confused here. Don't you seat belt them in? And don't the doors in the back of the unit have no door handle? Give us some more detail on this arrest. What was it a 417, domestic? Or was she 409..driving while intoxicated? It is just dangerous out there period, man or woman. Especially today, when they are on these street drugs makes them all 421 triple AAA.....Do you ride alone in the unit? That is one thing about being a police officer, you can never take anything for granted, your life might depend on it. Can never let your guard down, to dangerous out there. People don't understand it is like going into the war zone everyday. These people that cry over police abuse should ride a long, they have no idea, what it is like out there. And one thing is for sure, you learn something new everday. Number1* be safe out there now, hook"em and book'em!

I like this lady! Misssharpshooter is A OK.... Miss sharpshooter....bottom line is that I got relaxed because it was a female. That's the bottom line. Sorry cuffing job on my part, she slipped out of one of them. Didn't check the vehilce I drove to make sure that the baby-lock on the jam of the dor was activated. We ride alone most of the time down here. She didn't get seatbelted in because she was belidgerent and fighting.....anther bad choice on my part.... I got a written reprimand over the situation. I expected it....won't happen again. The better part of valor is being able to look your Sarge in the eye and just tell him, "I screwed up, bottom line." Those words saved me from being suspended w/no $$$.

The story dhermesc said WAS true. The officer who cuffed him is now a comedian, and I heard him tell that in one of his shows. No, he didn't get fired, but just got tired of police work after a while. A friend was on duty one night, and had to use the bathroom. He had to take out his sidearm to keep his pants from falling all the way down. He did his buisness and left. He was 15 minutes away when he got a call over the private channel to please return to the gas station and pick up his sidearm. He got a written reprimand, and almost had to answer to the council on it because the attendant at the station was a son of one of the council members. Definitely not the best night of his career...

Number1* Thank-you for the nice compliment and Calvin thank-you for clearing up the details on that story. One of these days when I retire I will be writing a book about a homicide that happened here back in the 50's, very interesting story. Wow, I didn't know you got a written rep. on that incident. Better, than being suspended without $$$.though. Do you guys down there use your pepper spray? Spray'em and lay'em .... hog tie them face down in the backseat of your unit..do you guys use the plastic ties?

A court house in Kansas City had a good one happen a year ago. A bailiff (female) went to the john and left her gun on the tank. A defense lawyer found it and carried it out with two fingers by the barrel. She almost got shot by the courthouse security guards when they saw her in the hall with the gun. They threw her on the ground and handcuffed her and hauled her off to press charges for sneaking in a gun. They finally figured out it was a service revolver from the serial number. The bailiff NEVER noticed it missing during her shift. Apparently the defence attorney wasn't very popular and claimed she was very afraid she would be shot.

LE is really getting away from laying anybody down in the back seat, especially after spraying them...too many incidents of people slipping down to the floorboard and suffocating. I spend a lot of time in schools since I am in the juvenile crime bureau so i don't carry pepper spray. Spray one person in a school hallway and you'll clear out the whole joint......We do have plastic cuffs (flexi-cuffs) but I didn't have them avaliable.....I used to carry it in my last department but it sure sux having to detox the person after you juice 'em...

Number1* that is probably very rewarding to you that your in that dept. you have a chance to help turn some of those kids around. Or did you like being on patrol better? dhermesc...what was the outcome on the Bailiff? Did she lose her job? If she didn't she should have. I can't even believe that story. If that gun had of fallen into the wrong hands... talk about a real tragedy..and of all places right in the courthouse. I used to shoot with the Police Olympics and also for the Corp. Challenge. I won a bronze in skeet for my company. One year they put a team together and asked me to be team captain and said the other lady shooter had been on the police dept for 10 years. I told the company it takes several months for a team to get there rhythm down.. you just can't go out and shoot. So, I met her out at the range and the other guys on the team. Oh boy, it was unreal. We were supposed to shoot 50 rounds of skeet and 50 rounds of trap. One guy I blasted for loading off the line, and for going from station to station with one in the chamber. Talk about gun safety! The lady shooter did not know how to shoulder her gun, or even really know how to work the action. What a nightmare. They all dropped out after just going a few stations!! I couldn't believe this lady had been a cop for 10 years and couldn't shoot a 12 ga.

Do you know the difference between a Fairy Tale and a Sea Story. A fairy tale starts" once upon a time", a sea story starts " Hey ,this is a no shitter" ! This is a real no shitter ! As a Navy EMT in Hawaii, I once got a call from dispatch for a woman acting intoxicated at a base warehouse. Upon arrival I came to the conclussion that she was having a psychotic episode and got her ready for transport. The area civilian hospital is equipped to handle such situation and after confiring with MD we transported her. I told the SP Sailor to get in the Ambulance cause I wanted a xtra set of hands. Also this female was wacked and I didn't want her to press false charges of impropriety. Her coworkers said she had been talking weird all morning and then she started yelling at the ceiling saying "He's up there coming for me". When I asked who, she said "THE DEVIL"! Nice ! As we rolled out I noticed my SP was nowhere to be found. The dumbass had got in front of the ambulance and with no entrance into the rear he was useless to me , no help there. As I had tied her hands and feet down I felt safe . My patient who was a 90 lb phillipino female starts cursing me out, spit was poring from her mouth. I mean really cursing me out like she was really possessed or something. I took vitals and took her personnel information from her ID. We got to the hospital in a timely manner unloaded her into the ER. Charge Nurse to me to place her in the quiet room (Bullet proof glass encased room in the middle of the ER). We got her in there and I was finishing up my paperwork and taking care of her property. I stood next to the gurney we had tied her down to and tried to relax her with a nice caring voice ,all the people in the room other than patient and myself left and closed the door behind them. She got very quiet and for once I was put me at ease , I returned to doing her paperwork and turned my back on her to handle her property (never turn your back). As I turned to place her stuff under the gurney I was surprised she had broken her restraints and closed the distance between us to where she now was right on top of me . I had only enough time to grab her wrists as they were inches from closing upon my neck. She said nothing which when I look back on it was pretty scary ! Her momentum carried me back into a table and she bent me 90 degrees backwards. Her eyes had murder in them and her strength was unbelievable. I'm 5'10'' 220 lbs and I can defend myself , but this woman had freakish strength ! As I held her off with my quickly depleting strength I looked back into the ER . I saw my useless SP sailor talking to my EMT assistant. I saw the admitting nurse and doctor and about 20 other people. I started screaming but alas the room is sound proof. My assailant said nothing which looking back was really !!!!ing scary , and I thought that was it my number was up. I rolled my head back again and I looked right at this doctor who was drinking a can of coke and locked eyes with him. It took a second for him to put 2 and 2 together he yelled out and I had the entire ER moving towards me. My assailant was looking to finish me off , I could feel her fingers now at my throat. Suddenly the room came alive with voices and lights (they turn the lights out to quiet the patient) . I saw many hands grab her arms and pick this woman up off of me. I wasn't out of breath but I was exhausted from my ordeal and dropped onto the floor. It took like 5 guys to put this 90 lb woman back onto the gurney, she fought them tooth and nail. I was checked out but only thing bruised was my ego. I never have since turned my back on a patient suffering from Altered Mental Status. Was she on drugs probably ,Chrystal Meth most likely or was she possessed by the Devil , I will never know. |
