It won't hurt the shottie, but your accuracy will be shite...usually.
Shotties can be particular about slugs...choke sizes and barrel dimensions are major factors I would assume. My ol maverick with a 24" CB (cylinder bore) will shoot 2/34" slugs into a big hole with boring regularity at 50 yards...my middle brother has a mossberg with a 20" CB barrel, he has to shoot 3'' magnum slugs with it, 23/4" slugs will fish-hook horribly out of it.
