Hey ya'll, I have been in the market for a new carry pistol and ran across one of these for sale and I don't know anything about them. It seems like they might have been a pre-runner to the PX4 storm compact, but smaller. I am interested in seeing what someone with first hand experience of these pistols has to say about build quality, reliability, and concealability. I realize some of this would be subjective, but I am not a fan of the PX4, but this little pistol looks a little more like what I want. Also, what would be a fair price to pay for one of these that is suppose to be like new, with all original accessories? I did some searching on here and found a few of really old threads and was hoping someone who has owned one for a while could chime in. Thanks ahead of time.....

And just to answer up front, I am only interested in a .40 and have also been looking at the Glock 27, M&P Compact, Kahr, and Walther PPS.

I just rescued my Baretta Cougar .40 cal from lay-a-way, (yeah, I know it's a "Stoeger", but I just call it a Baretta) and I'm gonna log some range time this weekend, shur 'nuf! If the Px4 is not to your taste, you may want to take a look-see at this puppy.

I'll let y'all know how the pistol and the PMC .165g ammo performed. The ammo was recommended by the guy behind the counter, so we'll see.

I had a Beretta 9000 in .40 SW and it was a fine gun. Finally traded it with my son and he put countless rounds thru it with no problems.

You're right, your Stoeger Couger is the Beretta Couger with Stoeger logo & name. I was talking to a customer service rep at Beretta and asked him about the Stoeger. He said it's the same gun only now put out by Stoeger. I've got one and put Beretta wood logo grips on it - Can't tell the difference. It's the second from the bottom:

I have a beretta 9000s. I have put thousands of rounds through it. It jams after approx 180 rounds. The best ammunition for the gun is brass rounds at 145 to 160 grain. The cheapest rounds are 180 grain from walmart or fleet farm, the gun needs to be cleaned more frequently with cheaper ammo. The best self protection ammo is 135-145 grain hollow points. It is hard to find a good holster or accesories for this weapon. My 9000s is .40 cal. 10 in the clip and 1 in the chamber. It is the most simple gun in my arsenal to disasemble and clean.

FWIW, I know this is a bit of a necro-thread at this time, with me being the latecomer to the party. However, I felt I needed to reply since I own 2 of the weapons in question. I own 2 Walther PPS's in .40, and the Beretta 9000 in 9mm. The Beretta is a great weapon, but cannot hold a candle to the Walther.

1. The Walther disappears on me, the Beretta screams, "Look, he's got a gun!!"

2. I don't care for the blocky grip on the Beretta, The Walther comes with 2 backstraps of varying thickness.

3. The Walther is INFINITELY simpler to field strip.

4. I don't really care for the decocker on the Beretta. Walther's Glock-like safety has spoiled me.

5. Recoil difference is negligible.

For my money, the Walthers were more money, but you get what you pay for. Don't misunderstand, I like my Beretta, and would trust it, and have no issues with it's quality or accuracy. But the Walther blows it away.
