I have a stock that came on a CMP HRA rifle. It has a 1/2" DAS stamp,a large horse shoe behind the receiver like the HRA stocks, and a serif P on the grip like the SA stocks.
It has very wild figure and dark bands. Stockdoc saw it and thinks it is birch. Can anyone tell me anything about this stock? Is it correct as issued for the HRA? Did they issue new rifles with birch stocks and DAS stamps? Why does it have a serif P?
Thanks.

George you stated a 3/8th on the other board and Im confused? If it is a 3/8th it is HRA. If it is Birch and 3/8th it is fake but walnut is HRA. The Birch wasnt until 1958 and Garands seized being made by that time. So all Birch stock's on Garands were replacements mostly in teh 60's. Hope this help's. Rick B

Rick:I was wrong in the other post . I measured it and it's 1/2". Sorry about the confusion. This is one you refinished and it was hard to tell if it was walnut or birch. I think it's birch i guess I was wondering if they put DAS stamps on birch. Thanks for the response.
