XD 9mm Sub Compact

Hey guys:

I am new to the CCW world and am strongly considering a XD over a Glock. I was just wondering if any of you have feedback about your exprences with a XD subcompact 9mm- I will be usingit for CCW, I am 6'3" 300lbs- will this be easy to conceal? Thanks for your time!

Wife has a XD40 SC. Probably same dimensions as the XD9 SC. It is really easy to conceal. She has a Don Hume JIT holster for it. I have used a Fobus paddle holster with it. It will also fit in concealment purse just fine.

The XD 40 SC has pretty sharp recoil. I haven't shot any other XD calibers or a full size XD. My wife is able to handle it better than I do. She uses the shorter magazines (likes that length grip). I have better luck with magazines with extension (but makes it harder to conceal. I have shot Glocks "some", but like the grip safety aspect of the XD and also the grip angle of the XD. I have a cop friend that swears by Glocks (has had several models/calibers) and say he really likes them. To each his own. I was never quite comfortable with the trigger safety only setup of Glocks.

I have a XD 9 SC. I picked up and shot it almost as well as anything else I own. I actually prefer shooting it with the 10rd mag which is flush to the bottom of the grip. I do like that it takes the full size XD mags that hold 16rds with the picky extension. I bought it for a carry gun at Christmas, but it has fallen to the side since I bought a Kimber Ultra Carry 2, but I still like carrying and shooting it.

XD9sc is awesome. I carry mine religiously in a Crossbreed Supertuck and actually forget it's there sometimes. With the shorter grip, there's almost no printing, even with a T-shirt on. I ususlly wear a polo shirt (either tucked or not), or a printed Hawaiin style shirt. Either way the sc is great. My wife loves is so much, I just bought her her own so I didn't have to give up mine.

I have both the XD Subcompact 9mm and .40 caliber. As far as size they are 100% the same. The 9mm holds more ammo; 12+1 or 16+1 with extended mag and the .40 holds 9+1 and 12+1 with extended magazine. They will both make a great carry gun. I carry the .40 most. I like the added power but the 9mm will do the job too. I don't notice much difference, if any, recoil. You will be very happy with the Springfield over a Glock.

I also prefer the shorter magazine. I use the extended magazine when plinking at the range for saved reload time but always carry the standard magazine. I find in a carry situation the extended magazine defeats the purpose of a Subcompact Gun.

The dimensions are IDENTICAL.
If you have the extra $150 and you want a 9mm I suggest the XDM 3.8. It's slightly bigger, but 19+1 rounds. There are no issues with a guy your size concealing it.

Mmmm,

my son has the new XD in .40 caliber. He loves it and would be out shooting it every weekend were it not for ammo costs.

the xd is a great platform. For someone your size you might want to take a look at the Glock 19. It is slightly bigger than the xdsc and smaller than the 4" xd9. Wish I would have went that route but I bought the xd9 and dont get me wrong I love it. I wish it was just a little bit smaller, but the xd9 sc is too short on the grip for me. Thats why I got me a new kimber ultra carry.

Picking Glock over XD is like picking a Geo over a Mercedes. A shooter can learn to get used to the size of the XD and there are many different sizes of XD. No shooter will ever change the inferior quality of Glock.

total bs!...if you like the xd buy the xd...if you like the glock buy the glock...i recommend shooting both at the range and pick the one you like better...the glock is not inferior, some people just cant get used to the grip angle...there are 3 sizes to chose from in most calibers glock makes..i had no problem getting used to my g19

Can you tell us why you feel this way - what issues do you have with the Glock.

I would think if the Glock were such an inferior weapon then there wouldn't be as many law enforcement officers carrying one.

I have a Glock 22 40 cal and a 45 XD. I would be hard pressed to tell you which one is the best. The Glock feels just a tad better in my hand and I think the XD wins the beauty contest. I was really surprised how accurately I could shoot the Glock right out of the box - it just seemed to want to shoot right where I was looking.

Based on my experience I would say it is more like a Ford, Chevy comparison. My advice would be to try to shoot them both and then pick the one that seems to suit you. I would be more concerned with how it feels and how you can shoot it as to which one is the best pistol. As far as functionality, I think they are like two peas in a pod.

When I bought my XD I did rent a Glock and M&P along with the XD. The Glock jammed several times, was inaccurate, was bulky and just felt cheap. The M&P was very nice but I just prefered the XD. I have shot Glocks belonging to other people to get another opinion. All the Glocks I have shot have had the exact same issues. My opinion based on my experience not based on how many police departments carry them. I could care less what the local cop carries. He most likely won't be there that very second I need a gun.

My opinion is so many Police departments issue them because they were the first Polly pistol and polly holds up better to all weather. Now that more and more companies have Polly pistols you are seeing many other brands in the hands of Police Officers. I know many XD owners who used to own a Glock but very, very few Glock owners who gave up theit XD to buy it.

I select all my guns on personal experience and my experience with Glock was very poor. If I want a piece of junk I can get one a lot cheaper than Glock. High Point makes a perfect POS for 1/3 the price.

Throughout my career I have written the contracts to buy just about every type of Glock product there is. The NYPD would buy them in lots of 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000 depending on the deal we got, time of year and status of the budget. I have shot just about every Glock made up until I retired a few years back and I will say my experience is that the very best Glock isn't 10% as good as the very worst Springfield. I specify Springfield because this is the Springfield forum but also far better than Glock in my opinion are Sig, HK, CZ, Taurus, Beretta, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, FN, Kimber, Colt, Browning and Para. Those are just the brands I have shot that I personally find superior. I can't speak for the many other brands I have not shot.

We had a lot more issues with Glock per capita than any other brand. Note, that is per capita, not more problems because more Glocks were used. Every time we would approve another pistol brand as an authorized duty gun we saw more and more other guns pop up and less Glocks.

the XD 40 sub compact is what I'm considering too for CCW. I prefer w/ the extended mag though b/c I like my pinky finger supported while in my grip

When it comes to small polymers, I prefer the Glocks. I own a G26, G33, XD9sc and a KelTec P40. The one that gets the most carry is the G33. I like the size, feel of the G33 and punch of the 357sig caliber.
