Finally, the proud owner of an M1...

Like the title says, I'm the proud owner of an M1, finally. Has a National Match action, new Boyd stock, the rifling is real good, needs a cleaning is all. I'll try and post some pictures of it when I get it home. You know, Illinois, I gotta wait 24 hours for a long gun. I get to pick it up tomorrow.

Not much else I can say as far as the rifle goes, for now anyhow. The guy remembered I was looking for one, had a customer bring one in for consignment about 45 minutes before he closed, called me a half hour before he closed when the guy left and he was able to find my number and I got there 15 minutes before he closed, looked it over and said SOLD!

He even has some .30cal in stock so I'll be picking up a can of that as well. It's even already on the clips, so when I get done shooting it, I'll have plenty of clips.

Oh yea, I got it for $899 out the door.

I knew there was a reason I past on the 2 I found/ran across at the last 2 gun shows I went to.

Thanks guys, and A.H, I'm thrilled. Even though it's not the original stock and all that, she's still a real beauty. I'll try and have pics up by Sat. night, if not, Sunday night.

From one sick Il bast+++ to another,
Going to dupage county fairground tomorrow morn for the show Could be the last show in our parts!

Heading up to Union Grove range to check it out. Bristol has gotten too pricy for my pocket.

LarBar, I'm near the Wis/Il. border. In fact, I'm only about 5-8 minutes (depending on traffic and which road I take, ) from the border.

And to give an update. I picked her up today. Unfortunately, I have no clue as to when I'll have pictures up. Reason being, I recently had a new PC built and went from a 32bit system to a 64bit system and my Camera software is currently only for 32bit. So I have to even see if it's available for 64bit and if not, figure out how to get it to work, if I even can? Sadly, it's not the only thing I can't seem to use. My son and I can't play our flight simulators. The PC games install and work, but the joystick won't work on Vista Ultimate 64bit. The joystick won't work with Vista period.

But when I get this resolved, I will post pictures.

I don't know much about Garands, so some of it I took the dealers word for. So I was a li'l disappointed to find out it isn't as much NM as the dealer led me to believe. In fact, from what I can tell, the only NM part I can find it the Op rod? Other then that, she's a beauty and a shooter. I didn't want any safe queen, I wanted a shooter and that's what I got. The new aftermarket stock just makes it look perty.

So again, sorry, no pics for a while; Until I can find the software upgrade for 64bit as I said, and that's if it's even available? I was told it should be.

Hell, worse comes to worse, I'll take the pics with my cell phone, . Unfortunately there to, I have yet to install it's software on the new PC, or lartop for that matter either. Both running Vista, laptop 32 bit, and as I said the desktop is now 64bit, WOOHOO.

He's right GM. It will dawn on you that you can't stack arms in the field … or the living room floor with fewer than three Garands. Also, you'll have to have the proper web gear to carry all those en-block clips, and the proper bayonets to keep them historically accurate and .30 ammo cans to store all the ammo that an outstanding, but finiky rifle demands. You'll knock over children and old people at the Wal-Mart to get to the last issue of Shotgun News on the newsstand to find a deal on mil-spec ammo before they sell out. Worst of all, your curiosity will get to you and you'll find out what "M1 thumb" is really all about. Don't worry though, your thumb will heal and you'll become a master at popping that en-block clip in the receiver before the bolt slams your thumb again.

Congratulations and welcome to the Garand Club!

PICTURES!

Found the correct software for the camera, downloaded and installed it. Here's a few pictures. Also gave her the once over and cleaned the barrel.

I sure wish I had the gages so I could fine out what the TE and ME is. I'm more concerned about the ME then I am the TE at this point. I know the ME is at least a 3, I think even a tad more.

Anyhow, here's the pictures, as promised.
