Springfield Armory Reliability

I am currently a revolver and shotgun owner. I have never owned a semi auto pistol but I am interested in buying one. I am leaning towards two brands and one of them is SA, the other one Beretta both in 9mm. I live in Florida and in the process of getting my CCW license. In addition I take the family to the Blue Ridge mountains in GA where it is very isolated. Here is my issue....I read so much about autos and FTF and FTE that I can not get myself to purchase an auto pistol. I keep thinking about that one day when I may need it (Hope it never happens) and it may jam. I would really apprecuate any SA owners that can share with me how they feel about the reliability of their SPRINGFIELD ARMORY pistol(s) and maybe this will push me over the edge and get me to go out and buy one. I am new to this forum so thank you all in advance for your help

I am for one do like my semi-autos in single action, do I trust them?.... Yes I do and I have 3 double actions and between them I almost perfer the SA I only own 4 pistols with DA and none of them are anymore trustworthy to me that is I do not own any 1911's looking forward to oneday but as I do.... the one in the pipe is the only way to go I've never had to deal with the FTF OR FTE problem but personally I do like the springfield quality and attention to detail in the smiplicty of its design to engage the shooter confidence...
dan....
WELCOME TO G & G also.

I own three XD's and a Springfiled 1911A1 and love them all. Springfield, in my opinion, is the very best handgun made as far as gun for dollar goes. Between all my Springfields I have close to 12,000 rounds and only 1 FTE and that was using reloads that had too much lube on it and didn't eject properly. Buy one. You will be happy.

I have 2 SA 1911's, and can't remember any FTE's with box ammo, and very few with handloads(of which were all lead SWC's). I cannot attest for the xd's, but a 1911 is about as reliable as you can get with a semiauto.

The only time my XD-40 has ever had a FTE was with lightly loaded reloads. It has been utterly reliable on factory ammo.

Isn't it nice to see a threat that is 100% Springfield praise? I can't see how anyone could say anything bad about a Springfield.

I have a SA 1911A1 that has had thousands of rounds (mostly reloads) with only one or two failures to feed/extract & those were with lead SWC's. Totally reliable with everything else. In fact I tried loading magazines with alternating 230gr ball/200gr SWC/200gr JHP with no problems many times.
Also, wife has XD40 SC that is totally reliable (has had 4-500 rounds thru it) and no problems (feed/extraction).

My cousin has 2 SA Inc 1911's. If anyone could break a cannonball it's him and they run fine.

On a differing note I'm thinking of an XD myself in the near future but in .45ACP.

I have the XD9 and the Beretta 92FS. I have about 800 plus rounds in the XD9 and 300 plus in the 92FS. Fed all kinds/grains of ammo with no jams so far. However, it's bound to happen. Also, revolvers can misfire as well...rare but happens.

I want to chime in on something since I have both guns you're looking AT! As far as which gun I prefer...it depends. Regarding accuracy, grip and better sites I'd have to say the XD9. However, The 92 FS feels more solid, thicker grip (not so good for small hands), handles recoil better.

Both guns field strip quickly and are easy to clean. However, the 92FS seems to take less time to clean than the XD9. I think they are both very reliable guns with GREAT reviews. It's all a matter of feel. See if you can rent both at the range and make your choice.
I really like both equally, but if I could only keep one it would be the XD9 Tactical because of the better (closer) sites and thinner grip for my wife....but I would REALLY miss my 92FS!

I've had my Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911 for 6 or so years now. Can't recall any malfunctions with any factory loaded ammo. Some here and there with old mags, but I have some new ones and both my SA and Kimber TLE II will eat anything I feed them. They also like reloads I run in them right now. Not too hot, but not too light either. Can't find anything bad to say about my SA 1911. And it is a very accurate pistol as well. Finally broke down and had some trigger work done on it. So its about 3.5 lb pull. But for the money, can't beat it for the quality. Good pistol platform to upgrade as well.

If you can find a SS Loaded in the 4" Champ or full size get it. My Champ has been flawless.

I'm new to the XDm Pistol. Mine is in .40 S&W.
I looked for more than a year and was convinced that I finally found my pistol....a SIG 250. Even asked Q&A is the SIG forum, then I touched a XDm. Game over.
I like to think I know quality and this SA really stands out.
I did keep old magazines and found 3 articles on the New XDm. All were outstanding.
1 XDm had over 10,000 rounds with no issues.
In the hands of a Pro the XDm can really shine...I'm still getting there.

Seems like Springfield is the gun to own. I have 4 Springfield pistols and love them all. I have never heard anything bad about them from anyone. I hope Glock owners all over are reading this thread. Springfield is just a quality gun at a fair price.

+1. If this isn't their sales pitch, it ought to be!

Gary, I do love my two Glocks, a 22 and a 27. However, the subcompact Glock is a bit cumbersome to shoot as its too small for my larger hands. I've been looking for Glock 23, the compact 40. I recently had a chance to shoot a XD45 at the gunshop. I still love my Glocks, but the XD does have something that is lacking in the Glock. Hard to explain, its just "smoother"

My next purchase will be a XD40 w/ the 4inch barrel. But... I'm not a fan of the XDm. I just don't like the way it fits. Oh, and I'm still keeping my avatar!
