Anyone happy with Winchester 748? I bought a little to try in my .308 $21/Lb. I've never used this stuff but plan on making up a few loadsthis week to see how it groups with 180gr bullets. Well as far as varmints, I'm heading to western Kansas in a few weeks cannot wait! Prairie dogs beware! And yes I'm taking my .308 with me.
Altho 180gr seems heavy for varmints,to each his own.I believe you will find a max for #748win. powder around 42 to 44gr so I would start at 40gr and work up.Probably at 42gr you will find a very satisfactory load for accuracy at about 2500fps.This would be a very safe load and according to my notes accurate with hollowpoint boattail,s.The only thing I see I did better with both 150 and 165gr.Personally,I would be loading 125gr spirepoint or 130gr bt,s for varmints.Push 3000+ to 3250fps and get that trajectory flattened out. sam.
