Homemade lures

Has anyone ever tried to make their own fishing lures. I understand yall tie flies, but I am talking about bass and panfish lures. I did some research and found a design for a wood popper, but that was about it. I also read about a piece of copper tube. Any advice or info is appreciated.

You mean there's a different kind????

My mother's cutlery drawer was raided all the time as a kid. everything I've seen used at work has been homemade. (but we've got an ample supply of SS tube)

give it a go man! piece of metal, little soldering work, maybe some paint to make it look purty, I'll bet you can get something to work pretty easily.

Making fishing lures

some the home made ones round here were made or heavy brass rod & bar stock a divot for the eye with a dab o paint, a piece of steel wire pressed through a diagonal hole in the lure (Barrow Ak Eskimo)
Seen working models of Walrus Ivory lures with a steel spike and a braded baleen leader had one for ages but disremember where it is today.
Ive seen on line fishing lurre kits from spoons, popers, plugs, and a repella style wood bodied torpedo lures, lead headed Jig's you could paint your self, the split rings, swivels and glitter stickers also all sorts of tube worms and rubber worms, crawfish, you name it if you cannot find what your looking for you can make it
Even seen where a fella makes lures from beer bottle caps.

i remember as a kid grandpa helped us make some wooden popper lures that worked pretty good. as of late I have taken to putting some styrofoam on a small hook and dabbling that in the water for a panfish popper when I lost my tiny poppers. Run a small piece way up over the eye where you tie your line too and leave the little hook exposed... works as good as store bought

Trigger Happy if you don't mind I would like to see the pics. I will probably pick up some copper tube this weekend to get started. I may try to make a popper also. Supposed to go catfishing with my grandparents sometime also. Here lately I have been doing a lot of bass fishing with friends, and want to be able to show off a little. They told me I couldn't get one to work.

A Bass will hit anything that glitters and wiggles. So will a Crappie. If all conditions are right.

In heavily fished waters, homemade lures or lures jerry-rigged from pre-existing lures are sometimes the only effective ones. "Educated" fish have seen all the store-bought ones a hundred times. Sometimes even painting hardbodies a custom color or adding prism tape to spoons can make all the difference.

I have a cousin who, for years, beat out lures

on his small anvil. He enjoyed the process. From what I gather he did just about as well as anyone with storebought metal spoons.

I had a friend who wanted to get into carving the painting his own wooden lures but gave it up as unrewarding work effort and time use.

Can't offer much advice for pan fish like bass, bluegill, crappie or perch...

...fishing around these parts is mostly for trout and steel head.

I've had good luck with homemade spinners...

...that look like a Colorado spinner.

I've used different blade sizes, colors and hook rigging to attract in those wary fish...

Yall keep this a secret ! If you want to catch a boat load of Bream and Crappie then make this bait.
I'm not suppose to be tell'in but I'll tell yall. And I'm not kidd'in at tall.

Find or buy what I'll call 1/8" black round shoe laces. Cut them 1"1/8" long.
Burn or hot melt glue the ends.
You'll need a needle and a leather needle is best. Cut 4ea. charcruse green skirting like you find on spinner baits... Look's like piece's of rubber band.

Thread the (I'll say rubber band ) through the eye of the needle. Next come down from one end of the Black shoe string 1/4'' and slick one of the rubber bands through half way.
Then put another under it. Next do the same to the oppisite end.

Take a Bream or Crappie hook and guess 1/8 or so from one of the ends and poke the hook through.

That's the bait. Next go to WalMart and buy those long type bobbers with the stick stuck in one end. There less than 2" long.

Now if the depth allows this put the bobber 3'1/2' up the line for starters. thats feet not inchs.

Tie on Uncle A.H's Fish Catching Dude Home Made Bait.

Chunk it out along the banks, tree's and where ever looks fishie and let it sink.

Ever so lightly work it like a jig. Then repeat and you should catch a lot of fish.

This bait is really a secret passed down to a hunting buddy of mine. This friend bought out a rod and rell repair shop and the 90 plus year old feller he bought it from took my friend fishing and the old man told my friend this is all were useing, the bait I described above.

In less than 2 hours they catch over 40 bream and Crappie between the 2 of them.
I think my friend said 49 and a few little Bass they threw back I'm don't remember.

My friend made some and gave me one, it's easy to make...A.H

OOPS I forgot cut the rubber band type skirt about 1 inch long and do the above.
