the crab gods have smiled upon me this season and told me to treat myself to a new toy. I've been wanting a supperssor for a while and now is the time. the problem is I can't decide what calibre or mfg. silencer to get. I have shot a few silenced guns before, (.22s & .45s) but don't know enough to make an expensive decision. If I get a .45 supperessor It can be used on my MAC 10 or one of my 1911 s. If I get a .22 I plan to get threaded couplings for some of my .22 rifles & pistols.(I already have one that fits a Ruger .22 auto) can a .22 silencer also be used with .223? does anybody have experience with the different ones on the market or have any recomendations?

Basically No.
For a centrefire rifle I reckon the reflex type are better and are probably the most popular amongst hunters in the UK. I use a Reflex T4 on my FAR15 (cost less than your tax stamp which we don't need) The benefit of the reflex is that it doesn't add very much to the overall length of the rifle whereas the other type does.

Alright to answer your questions

Can a 22 be used on a 223, most the time no, its not manufactured to handle the higher pressure, also if you take a look at the size you will understand that a 223 requires much more baffle to be effective.

Larger caliber suppressors can be used on smaller calibers and you only lose maybe 5-10 of the 40 db suppression, this doesn't work vice versa.

As far as brand goes I recommend YHM with the QD mounts, it makes taking it on and off very easy and their QD mounts have built in flash hiders for when you aren't using the suppressor.

I have a couple YHM's, I have no other brands, I pretty much got my first YHM liked it so much saw no reason to switch.

Current wait on the Tax Stamp is almost 6 months, and your reason for getting a suppressor is always reduction of noise polution, or as I call it the good neihbor policy.

Something else, look for the reduction numbers on the websites, I couldn't find any on the reflex but I didn't spend alot of time there. All the YHM suppressors have data associated with them for reduction in sound.

In the UK a silencer for a .22rf will cost from about $30 and T8 Reflex for a .308 will cost from around $300 today.

Approx 1.5 us$ to the Pound.

Prices in europe are much about the same.

Thats pretty cheap, 22rf's are about 250 + 200 for the stamp and the 308 and 223 ones are closer to 500 + 200 for the stamp. Are UK suppressors as good as the US ones or are the limited in how much reduction they can do?

I would imagine that they are as good as if not better. No limits, we can also get the fully silenced firearms like the DeLisle carbine.

Mass production keeps the costs down, especially for .22s, nearly all the sporting .22rf sold in the UK come screwcut as standard.

yeah idiots in the us think its for assassins they don't realize its to be a good neighbor and not wake the dead. Suppressors are pretty rare here actually takes a 6 month full body cavity search at this point in time to own one. Common sense out the window.
