Finally Caved In...

Well I finally did it. I will have my first AR-15 sometime early next week. I have always been hesitant about buying an AR. I never felt the need to own one, I always somewhat wanted one but never felt the NEED. What does a WWII buff need an AR for? I always said "There's no wood on that rifle. It wasn't built before 1955. Why would I want one." Well my brother in law just bought a new match grade upper for one of his rifles, and had this spare one lying around. With my birthday coming up here pretty soon he said "If you buy a lower, I'll give you this upper." Hell, how could I resist. I finally found a Rock River lower on gunbroker for not a bad price and with an A2 stock and made the deal. I am pretty excited about it. I will post some pics once it finally gets here, and I get everything assembled.

Now you need to sporterize it, just like the guys did with WWII and WWI iron -- put some wood furniture on it! Polish the barrel and reblue it to a nice deep imitation of a Colt or S & W blue. Replace the trigger with a nice clean breaking one. Make it a varmint or big game hunting rifle, if only to shut the mouths the anti-black rifle politicians and their media friends.

Got it today. The new parts arrived and I got it up and running. I will tell you I had to get a new front sight for it as my brother in law had taken the old one off to put on a red dot sight and lost it. The other part I replaced I will let you find... It wasn't neccessary but when the SHTF I want to be able to "Surprise" somebody.

And I had to have a nice black rifle to go with my nice black dog

Great looking rifle, love the camo pattern... but I can't say I would want that stuff written on my gun, but to each their own.

If your target is close enough to actually read that the suprise may be on you

Good point... I just couldn't go on living and knowing that there was a dust cover so awesome. I had to have it.

Update:

I have spent the last few weeks trying to make this new rifle look old (Vietnam era.)

Stripped paint off the pistol grip.

Changed the front handguards to a thinner model until I can afford a 20" barrel, and some triangular handguards.

Put an A2 stock in the rifle.

Bought a couple of Brownells 20 rnd mags to replace the ugly AK looking 30 rounders.

I cleaned her all up and she shoots like a champ. At a tactical shootout the other day I was able to score an 87/100 on the running man targets 50/100yd runners at 10 mph. (This was the only event I was able to shoot as I had to work running the **** target systems)

Me too. All I need to find now is a 20" barrel and some triangular handguards and she will be complete. Then I don't know what I will do with my life....Shoot I guess.

I gotta go with the first look, at least on the surface. Can't tell from the pick how nice the camo job was done but I thought it was really cool. Not that I don't like the second look (I do) but I thought the first was a little more unique.

Your sister married well. All I've ever gotten from my brothers in law are requests for loans....

I am kinda lucky I guess. I have been able to get this rifle for $375 from him, and a Kimber Custom II 1911 in .45 ACP when I traded a guitar for it.

We do fight a lot...Mostly because he is a lazy SOB, and refuses to do work, and when he has to do work all he does is b**ch about it. (I can't say it is all him... I kind of have a short fuse when I feel people are being harsh with my sister... I'm a little too protective.) We are always able to make up, and become friends for another couple of months, but I hope this time it sticks. I hate not being able to see my sis.

Exclamation

Hey Batbag, is his name Frank from Niagara Falls? Yeah, that particular idiot was married to my sister and ran two restaurants into the ground, burned through her savings, then refused to work another day and let her look for work. I too am fiercely protective of my sisters, fortunately they both have good husbands now but Frank doesn't ever even send a nickel to take care of his kids. Worthless SOB, a man too lazy to look for work or support his children should have his nuts cut off.

<END rant!>
