Glad to see that I'm not the only one to include the Sex Pistols among my list LOL.

Alright, I propose a new rule. If you can't spell Lynyrd Skynyrd, you can't include it in your favorites list!

Well, I own about 250 vinyl records, 50 or so 7 inches, maybe 500 to 700 CDs and have about 500 gigs of music on my computer. I listen to a wide variety of stuff, and I have albums of at least one artist in every genre, but some genres I only like limited stuff. I am not huge into electronic music for example but I do kind of like Daft Punk and Aphex Twin, but I am not sure how you would catergorize them. I am a product of the 80s. My first CD I ever bought was Metallica ...And Justice For All, after that followed quickly Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets along with Kill'em All later on. After the black album I stopped liking Metallica pretty much all together. I also listend to Guns N Roses and some hip hop that was coming out at that time and in the early 90s. Aw heck I will just list some bands but only list a few.

Rock:
MC5
Stones
The Who
Creedance
Hellacopters
Kyuss
Queens of the Stonage

Punk:
Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Dead Boys
Dead Kennedys
Misfits
Bad Religion
Sex Pistols
(this list could go on and on so I will stop there)

Country:
Cash
Hank I, II, and III
Waylan
Patsy Cline
David Allan Coe
(when I moved out I stole my father's outlaw country collection on vinyl - thanks dad!)

Hiphop:
KRS1
Atmosphere
Wu Tang (and their solo stuff)
Sage Francis
Gangstarr (well I am a Guru fan)
Nas

Metal:
Metallica (old school only)
Slayer
Mastadon
Dillinger Escape Plan
The Sword
Megadeath

Classical:
Beethoven
Mozart
Tchaivkosky

Blues:
Robert Johnson
Lead Belly
RL Burnside
Taj Mahal
BB King

Soul:
Marvin Gaye
Stevie Wonder
Ray Charles
Gil Scott Heron
Al Green
Old school Jackson 5
Aretha Franklin
Roberta Flack

What they play on the radio, not sure where to slap it category wise:
Tool
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine
Muse
Foo Fighters

Of course if I actually completed this list it would go on forever. I am not a huge fan of pop music or what is popular these days and I think that most stuff that tries to pass off for punk, metal, or hardcore these days is really not that at all. I find pleasure in discovering new indenepent label music though and it will be a hobby of mine for the rest of my life.

I also like lots of differnet types of ethical music from other countries. I like latin music and cuban music and some african music as well.

Heh, yes, I am rather a child of the 80s with a lot of music. But I'm only 34.

Tlarkin, love the punk section of your list. Iggy pop is the man. I love his quote, when asked what Punk Rock is: "Punk rock is a word used by dilettantes and heartless manipulators." Man was also a very smart businessman after he got himself together. "Lust for Life" has made him a fortune. Carnival Cruises used it as their theme for quite some time. "Real Wild Child" was licensed for use by a waterpark chain "Wet N'Wild".

The lyric changes or omissions are funny as hell, considering what "Lust for Life" is actually about.

Not to mention he was smart enough to take Bowie's help when it was offered. Their collaborations are always great stuff.

I have always been a fan of Iggy Pop and the Stooges and the MC5. I sometimes wish I was born in the 50s so I could have seen them in the late 60s live. That would be insane. We need to build that time machine we were talking about in the other thread.

I have always liked and will always like Punk rock music. Which is why I also like hip hop, a lot of same philosophies coincide in the two, but with just different music styles. Punk is after all more of an idea than a life style or music when you get down to it.

Love the quotes too. On my youtube account I have like 6 iggy songs flagged as my favorite videos.

Did you know he was also on that kid's show in the real early 90s called Pete and Pete? Iggy played the little girl next door's father.

A friend (also a big fan, his favourite is "The Passenger") told me that once and I absolutely didn't believe him until I found a clip. Unreal.

I do remember he was in that godawful sequel to The Crow. He did a new version of "Now I Wanna be your Dog" for it. I have to say, I prefer the original. The lead guitar is a lot better.

Speaking of punks, you ever see the film Class of 1984? Outwardly, it seems like a 50s "moral panic" movie about punks, but it's surprisingly authentic and nuanced.

Wow left over crack, really? Man you are full of surprises, you ever listen to Spazz or Nuerosis?

I like the west coast stuff too, NOFX, Propaghandi, Me first, but Rancid was East coast, they hail from NYC.

I even got into some NYHC too, but I was never straight edge, but some of the music was good. I always liked snapcase and of course sick of it all, but they aren't SXE HC, they are just hard core.

I also like the dead milkmen.

yeah it is kind of like listing all the films Tom Waits has been in, and people are like no way really? Then I am like imdb.com will show you the way grasshopper.

yeah I don't really like the iggy covers, but when the first guitar hero came out and I was playing search and destroy I totally jammed out. Of cousre all the guitar hero songs are covers.

"I'm a street walking cheetah with a hand full of napalm...
I'm a runaway sun of the nuclear A-bomb!
I am the world's forgotten boy
The one that searches and destroys!"

Dang dude, I am going home and busting out the vinyl when I get off work tonight, and the first thing I am popping on is some Iggy! Then I will probably hop and ebay and drop 100 bucks buying records again, thanks for bringing up my old addiction man! I used to blow all kinds of money buying reocrds off of ebay.

Well, guess I found my workout music for today...I find "Cry For Love" works surprisingly well for a warmup.

Yeah it just surprises me to find that music on a gun forum is all. You and I get along in the music department for sure. It was by no means an insult to your intelligence either. Now if you would have said Jessica Simpson and Brittney Spears I would maybe question your intelligence, and possibly how old you were, LOL.

Right now, in my life I'm buying all the albums from the 80's that I did not have the cash for as a teen LOL. Thank God for used record shops and Amazon.com. I think the next album (on Compact Disc format) I will look for will be Level 42 "Running in the Family" from 1987.

Call me a metalhead if you want.

I'm a huge fan of both Metallica (especially pre-Black Album) and Megadeth. I also like Pantera and some Iron Maiden. \m/ >_< \m/

Then again, I inherited a liking to classic rock from my dad, also.

Say, anyone notice that James Hetfield sounds like Richard Kiel when his voice is detuned to C? "Jaws" singing lead vocals to Metallica's "Fight Fire With Fire" is flippin' AWESOME!!!
