There are many gun bills in the New York State Legislature that will greatly change the landscape for anyone owning a gun in the state.
One bill would make pistol permits to be renewed every 5 years. That means all the tests, fingerprints, background checks, reference checks, MONEY, and such we must all go thru to get the permit in the 1st place.
Another bill will outlaw 50 cal. weapons. That could mean No Shotguns over .410. no 50 cal muzzleloaders, no 500 S&W.
There is also a bill to mandate micro stamping in semi-auto pistols.
Another Bill would outlaw any handgun that can be fired by a child.
Some have the bills have already passed the Assembly, and are working their way thru the Senate. With the NYC liberals controling everything in the State Legislature, New York residents and concerned citizens anywhere in the USA need to contact Senators and the Legislature about these laws. If they pass here, they'll be used for the groundwork of other bills in other states.
Here is a copy of the e-mail I sent to my State Senator.Date: Friday, May 8, 2009, 7:59 PM
> Senator McDonald,
> My name is Daniel M. Sofranko Jr. and I have been a
> life long resident of your legislative district. The reason
> for this e-mail is to express my deep concern for pending
> Anti-Gun legislation pending in Albany.
> The bills of most concern to myself and other law
> abiding citizens are Senate Bills 1598, 1715, 2379, 3098,
> and 4397 along with Assembly Bills 1326, 2882, 3076A, and
> 6157.
> Their passage will do nothing to help crime rates or
> make streets safer in NY State. Their sole purpose is to
> make my guns and ammo illegal and to burden honest people of
> this great state with taxes, fees and regulations that serve
> no public safety purpose. The safest society is an armed
> society. It has been proven time after time through out
> history that when guns and the means to defend life and limb
> are restricted in the name of public safety, that the only
> ones made safe are the bad guys.
> Assembly bill 3211A would effectively outlaw most Muzzle
> Loading firearms and Shotguns. I hunt with a 50 caliber
> Savage Muzzle Loading rifle, and any shotgun over .410 gauge
> is 50 caliber or more.
> Senate Bill 4397 would outlaw all semi-auto handguns due
> to the inability of "Micro-stamping" to be done by
> the Gun industry.
> The intent of Senate Bill 1598 is easy to see. It's
> a money making Bill for the Counties and State. It also
> would open up the very real possibility of some Judge or
> Sheriff to not renew the permit because of their own
> personal agendas.
> Assembly Bill 2882 would just waste more taxpayer money
> of a failed program. Not once has the fired case from a new
> dealer purchased pistol been used to solve a crime. All it
> has served to do is burden the Gun MFG and the taxpayer with
> a useless program in the name of Criminal Investigations.
> I'm sorry to take up your important time with this
> matter, but I'm tired of politicians from NYC thinking
> they know what's best for me and my fellow outdoors man.
> I wish you to work with your due diligence in killing these
> Bills and protecting our God Given rights to self-defense
> and liberty.
>

> Sincerely,
> Daniel M. Sofranko Jr.

Please, contact him and let him know that gun laws only hurt honest citizens, not the crooks.
I don't care if they sent me a form letter. At least I wrote the letter, what have others done to help protect gun rights in this country?
How many NRA members are on this forum? If you're on this forum you should be an NRA member, or you're nothing but a hypocrit. Someone who claims to like guns and hunting, but does nothing to protect those rights. 80,000,000 gun owners in this country and only 4,000,000+ NRA members is damned disgusting and a major reason we have King Hussein and the rest of those traitors in Washington.
I read the wording on the 50 cal law and it makes it sound like it is just firearms like .50 BMG's BUT if they don't word that in the law then it can be used for anything (muzzleloaders, shotguns..). The assault weapon law states that firearms like my AR would have to be rendered permanantly inoperable, turned in, or registered. That is my interpretation of them but I'm no lawyer so what do I know.
