I've had a few over the years and most of them were, as someone has said already, holes to pour money into. They require maintenance, maintenance & maintenance. Last boat was a 16'6" deep Vee speedboat, which came with a 60hp outboard but I re-engined it with a Yamaha 140 HP engine. I got the engine in 3 cardboard boxes 'cos it had been seized and was too expensive for the pervious owner to have rebuilt. I rebuilt it myself (even making some very expensive bits) and ran it for about 6 years on the boat. With the 140hp the boat would do about 60-70 mph. If you buy a boat, don't ever expect to recover your money when you sell it.

How can I 'Soar with the Eagles' when I'm working with such 'Turkeys'!
I have an Olde Town 15 1/2' square stern predator and a 5 hp motor. I have way too many accessories to list. This baby helped me score a few Caribou and a couple of Moose. Not to mention the largest silver of my life !! I wouldn't call her a boat, but she's close !!

I had one i fished the Chesapeake Bay in when I lived up there but sold it when I left. Been thinking of getting another one down here cuz there is so much good saltwater fishing here near shore. But, I keep thinking....
one of the happiest days of my life was when I bought that boat. the next happiest day was when I sold it.
Here's pic's of a 1970's aluminum deep V, 16 ft fishing boat I've totally renovated. Last pic is of my boat with my 14 y.o. grandaughter as we had just finished fishing all afternoon at Smithville Lake, in NW Missouri.
After reading all the posts, I`ll go back to my early years when my boat was an 8 ft pram with a trolling motor. Where I fished at the time that`s all you could use. Speed .....slow. Cost to run....nothing. Fun ? You bet.
Now living in central Fl, my boats a lot bigger. A lot faster to say the least
and uses all my "play" money to operate. Fun? You bet.

See where you fished the Chesapeake Bay. Back in the early 70`s I used to
fish for strippers all around the bay Bridge. Mostly used eels for bait with a jig thrown in every now and then.
Had some great days and caught some big strippers.
