So I have some seed potatoes in stock and bean seeds on the way, but I haven't ever grown either. Anyone have any tips? I'd like to know how to grow / dry them best just in case I ever really need to.
Finally got the garden tilled and can't wait for last frost!
You better get those potatoes in the ground as soon as you get them. Most people like to plant them around St. Patrick's Day. I'm not sure what gowing zone you're in, but it's about the right time for beans. What kind of beans?
Hill up your potatoes good. For a while after they start growing you can keep putting dirt around the plant to build a strong root system.

I'm in NY, have to be careful about frost. Got some this morning. The peas didn't mind, but the tomato plant I had outside the cold frame is now in the compost pile.
I'm looking at black beans and red kidney beans. I want to try and dry them, this is where I need the most help. I know for a dollar I can get a pound of them, but its an exercise in survival gardening. Any help would be appreciated.
If you put them taters in now make sure you mulch them heavily until danger of frost is past as they grow do as said before keep raising the bedding dirt around them try to make sure it's as rock/stone free as possible,, try to get heirloom varieties as you can save seed for next years crops as well.

When planting your beans, I tend to plant 4 rows spaced about a foot apart and 6 inches between plants in the row. Then I make a path wide enought to run my tiller down and do another 4 rows,,, However I wait 2 weeks between each "plot" so my beans are not all ready to be picked on the same afternoon. With a path or end of garden between them like that you can easily pick your beans and have less weeds to contend with.
We can, vacuum seal and freeze our beans, but we tend to just grow the green bean variety, but here is a pretty interesting link on beans.
I have a family of rabbits that just recently moved in to the stand of pear trees by my garden, can't wait for them to come into season, might not be able too! I think I'll have to burn the brush pile out before everything starts coming up.
I'm hoping that when I put the chickens outside in the same general area the rabbits will move out.
A nuisance nibbling rabbit is always in season when they are in my garden! I keep an old .22 rifle in my office behind the desk in case I see one out through the window. Its war around here my friend LOL I would burn that brush pile, they dont say multiplying like rabbits for nothin'! Its a bad year for bunnies around here LOL I see them everywhere around the property, the dog seems to enjoy chasing and getting ahold of one every now and again though.

One of those four-legged veggie eaters got Kennedy'd today. I like the combination of see-thru scope mount / scope. Never would have got him at 20 yds that clean with my scope sighted in at 50.
Tip for planting Potatoes...
When you cut a seed potato in 1/2 , dip it in wood ash.
Then put some bone meal in the hole , put a little dirt over the bonemeal,
then plant your potato in the hole just below the surface !
It will grow big and healthy...
I'm growing red and white Potatoes both...Gotta have taters !

Well, my potato plants are 3 feet high from the top of the hill and my beans are really starting to take off.
My only problem is that I've got far too many zucchini growing. I let a few unplanted squash plants go, and they all turned out to be zucchini, I've got at least 12 palm-length fruits growing already. Time to set up a stand and leave a hat out by the road.
LOL! Codenshoot, with those extra zukes, cube them up and freeze them, they are great in spaghetti, stir frys, chilli, and other dishes. They arent so good to fry as fresh, but can't win em all!
