True, but you can't look like a guy just waiting for his chance to get a couple of headshots, haha. I wouldn't be wearing anything other than what I often wear around (t-shirt and cargo pants), so I don't think I'd stick out too much.

But perhaps I am worrying about it too much. I asked this because I am trying to decide if I want to buy another (more powerful ) "SHTF" rifle, and if I don't limit myself to super-compact stuff (basically only the Sub2000), I have tons more options. I also have to factor that my GF uses a shotgun which obviously has no more concealability than any other long gun. Even though my rifle is highly concealable, her weapon is not, so I have to know that we would likely have to stick to the shadows anyways for the sake of keeping her and her weapon safe. And, also, that we will take Bugging Out even more seriously and would only rely on it in truely bad situations.

A lot of times when I go camping I roll a .22 rifle up in my 2 man dome tent, and then put my tent in one of those zippered canvas bags that the framed lawn chairs come in. After I set the tent up, wallah, the rifle goes back in the bag. Pretty slick if I do say. The bag even has a strap so I can carry it fairly comfortably for short distances even if I'm wearing a regular pack as well. I would think this would not be too conspicuous in a shtf scenario as a lot of people would probably be hauling around all types of junk (most normal mortals don't have a lot of tacticool gear like us G&G folks). I've never tried it but I'm sure other rifles would fit in there as well, and the particular bag I use (I think its a coleman) even has an inside pocket that would proabably hold a 30 round mag or two quite nicely. BTW the guitar case idea is cool, and would probably work except too many people have seen Desparado (wicked cool movie). I always thought that having an arsenal in a guitar case would be awesome after I watched that movie. But the last time I moved I didn't want the neighbors to see me blatantly carry firearms into the house, so I loaded up one of my golf bags with a bunch of guns. Holy crap! If you do it right, you can get a lot of firepower into a golf bag! all I can say is golf bag arsenal>guitar case arsenal. Might be odd in a shtf to be carrying around your golf bag though.

Wink

Were I live (blessed redneckville) I don't have to worry about it. I could carry a Barret .50 down the street and the cops would approach me just to ohh and aah over it and to ask me " How's she shoot? Purdy good?". If the SHTF around here everyone over 5 years old would be carrying a rifle!
I'd suggest ya'll move BEFORE the SHTF.

Yep. that would most likely work like a charm. Kind of like in the novel Day of the Jackal, where the assassin disguised himself as a crippled old veteran, with his disassembled rifle hidden in his crutch.

Many folding-stock rifles (real rifles, mind you) will fit in a tennis racquet bag.

I can't believe no one's mentioned a trenchcoat yet! It works in all the action movies.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna get the GF one of the SU-16s for her primary, largely for its folding capabilities. Further, I wanted at least one of us to have some long-range capability, which neither of us have with our current weapons. Finally, a Tac-Sol .223 suppressor is about the cheapest centerfire suppressor around (as well as being quite nice, being user-servicable and all).

If your GF likes her shotgun, get a collapsible stock for it. You can take the barrel off, and it breaks down into a smaller package.

a few times when I worked on other boats I would put my folding stock mini 14 and a bunch of loaded mags in my sea bag. no one ever noticed unless I showed it to them.

Yes, but it's also 105 degrees here, there is a reason the Yahi ran around in their knickers!

I am leaning to a Rossi combo gun soon, comes with it's own case, and the youth style ones are a tidy little affair. If only I could choose the calibers, but then I could also just man up and get a TC Contender...

I just saw the ultimate bugout longgun set-up. I'm in S Africa on business, visiting friends and hunting. My (gun nut) buddy in Pretoria showed me his set-up. It's a R4 (RSA version of a Gallil) with 12' bbl and side folding stock. He has it and 3 30rd mags in a really cool heavy duty nylon bag that looks just like it's made for a photography tripod. The bag has a quick rip open dual zipper set-up for the main compartment where the rifle is and a sturdy wide padded shoulder strap. He put a Nikon patch on it and says he has taken it to the mall and no one even looked twice at him.

While gun ownership is heavily regulated over here, there are no additional restrictions on short bbl rifles or shotguns or suppressors. No more trouble to own these than a double bbl shotgun.................

Thats a good idea, using other decorations like the Nikon patch (although the legality of bringing something to the mall varies by location I'm sure) to provide additional concealment (or would that be considered urban camouflage?).

I'd hate to admit it, but things start going sour with me and heavily processed foods like dogs and chili too! I consider it a natural defense mechanism!

If you take the barrel off it fits well inside a duffel bag and still has at least the 6 shells in the holder

I agree with the Sub2000.. My dad has the one that hold Glock 17 mags (plus he carries a G17) What better combo than a pistol and long gun that take the same mags? Just don't buy the aftermarket 30 rd mags.. buy real Glock ones...
