All sporting rifles, that have semi automatic actions, are legal in New York State.
The ony problem guns, are those that look like assault rifles. Most of these are Military rifles, but some are just "look alikes".
The particular features that make a gun dangerous and illegal, are a little silly,in my opinion.I can't keeptrack of them.
Good luck
Frank

Bottom line, newguy: If it was legal under the Slick Willy AWB, it's legal in NY State. The #$&^@*! Ban is still in effect here since that bastard Patacki got it adopted as state law. You need to worry about cosmetic features, magazine capacities and magazine dates of manufacture a lot more than about the type of gun. Hi-capacity magazines made before 9/13/1994 ("Pre-ban mags") are still legal here even if you did not buy them back then. After that, 10 round magazines are the limit unless you're a police officer.

General rule of thumb is that if a reputable gun shop in the state is selling it, the gun or magazine is safe for a New Yorker to buy.

I live in upstate ny. I own 2 SKS's, one I bought at a local gun shop. My shootin buddy has an AK and an M-4 bought locally. As long as you don't modify them you should be fine. Although your local gunlaws may be different. I don't think the NYC laws apply to you.

Since criminals are the only ones that can have guns without restrictions, just become a criminal. That way you won't have to worry about any stupid laws.
