You are obviously quite proud of your country and your area, (as you should be.) Those are all beautiful pics.

The pictures shows me and my son, our dog, two of my daughters, and some pictures from the small lakes just outside our house, less than 400 yards from home. It's not so much pride. More a love relationship to our nature here. Compared to the rest of Europe it can indeed seem exotic to go hunting from my doorstep, and that I do!

Life quality can sometimes be measured in how many sides of your house you can pee in daylight without making a fool of yourself...

Kompressor - Great post. That clip looked like an ELK. haha. Where are you located in Norway? What do you use for taking them? Keep the pics coming. Always nice to see how it is done in other countries.

In rereading your post, I see you are N. of Oslo. You have a very nice family and a splendid location to be in touch with nature.

Great post Kompressor. I just wish I was a little closer as I'd like to help thin the moose herd.

Hello folks, it's been a while on my part. Sorry to be away for so long! I'll try to pop in a little more often. Had two wonderful weeks of vacation in the warm French Riviera. Great place indeed, but perhaps not quite my bite of the steak. Everything was as expensive as you may think it is, and the Fench as arrogant as you only can imagine too... I am a bit happy to be back in a country where most people at least TRY to park their cars correctly, and don't get so much into my face when I mind my own business... I mean, when I back up on the pump at a gas station it is to get the hose on the correct side of the rental car. And when I fumble some thirty seconds to get out it is because I'm having a hard time finding the lever for the gas lid somewhere underneath the panels, NOT BECAUSE I FIND THE SPOT TO BE A GREAT PLACE TO PARK!!! And I don't need some strange woman babbling loudly in my face about it either... Jeeez!
I have participated at a couple of trade fairs two weekends in a row. -All about hunting and fishing too, since I mention it. The latter one just finished today and had some 25.000 visitors. It's called the "Nordic Hunting and Fishing Days", and is the single largest hunting and fishing trade fair in Scandinavia. Lots of fun! Lots of cool people!! I have posted some pics from my stand there to. Hope you like it! I also got the oportunity to give a complete fly fishing set to the Norwegian Prime Minister (=>President...) when he visited. Great stunt with lots of PR value for me indeed! Picture posted too!
Then it's all about hunting for me pretty soon. Our moose hunting opens October 5th. I'm really excited about it since it is my first time. Took my shooting exam the other week. Took a picture of my shot group on the electronic screen too. It's sure a lot of fun to do (a lot) better than the .308 people at the range, since I'm still fairly new to shooting my locally infamous 300RUM... Anyways, I always get the range to my self when I shoot, since the others find my shooting time to be a nice time for a coffee break... First they complained, but then later somewhen mentioned it was rather nice to get rid of the old house martin nests underneath the ceiling of our club house...
This weekend our hunting team got together and bought a moose puller too. A nice thing for us, since our terrain isn't very flat... Picture posted also!

I didn't get a moose tag in Maine again this year. Maybe next year. Put in for antelope in South Dakota again for October. Should draw those tags. Always like pics of the Old Country as my folks say.

Very nice pictures. I'd love to shoot a moose someday, but I have never seen one here. On the east side of the state there are some, but not where I hunt deer. Thanks for sharing

I'm sorry if anybody were offended! French people (not Canadian-French!!) are known in Europe to be a bit arrogant. And I can only add to it that this was our experience too on our family vacation in France recently.

As to the moose hunt I've been explaining about our qualification tests before.

First anyone who wants to hunt need to take a 45 hour course, with an exam + shooting pratice.
Then, for hunting on larger animals (deer of any kind) he needs to pass a shooting test EVERY YEAR + document 30 practice shots before he is allowed to take the test. You can see the target above. It's a medium sized deer target, and 5 consecutive shoots must be within the ring from a distance of 110 yds, unsupported shooting. -And the shooter will not see the results before all 5 shots are fired.
It's actually rather easy. But as you all know, not all hunters are shooters... So surprisingly (dissapointingly!) many has to make several tests. The picture shows my first test. All shots are within 3 inches (Cal. 300RUM level 3).
When I sit beside people older than me on the range, who's shooting .308 and spreading their shots all over the target. Then I'm in doubt as to wether the guy should be allowed to hunt at all...

I have also seen exelent shots on the range make wild shots when adrenalin is factored in.We expect everyone to keep cool and concentrate, but more often than we like this is not what happens. And in a way,it isn't the hunters fault all togather as he doesn't know what he will do until after it happens.Experienced hunters will hold off if they are excited, but newer ones havn't learned this yet. ,,,sam.

At the range, taking a test, with buddies and others as spectators. I am sure adrenalin is a factor for some! -Even more than in a hunting situation sometimes?

Are those critters natural habitants of the wild there?? They look more like something out of Africa to me.
