1911 Disassembly

Can anyone give me a "heads up" on disassembling a R.I.A. 1911, for cleaning?
We're not at home, where I have all my manuals and info, and I just plain forgot how to go about it! I have the barrel bushing and spring housing out, but can't remember how to get the barrel link pin out, and slide off. (I last disassembled one of these, back in 1956, back at the Military Acedemy I graduated from!)
Thanks,
Fred (Honcho)

Ensure gun is unloaded, and magazine is out.

Cock hammer.

Depress plunger at front of pistol, rotate bushing, remove bushing, plunger and spring.

Hook left thumb in trigger guard, and push the slide back until the "half moon" notch is lined up over the slide stop.

Push the slide stop out from the back side.

Pull slide assembly off.

The tricky part for me at first was reassembly. You have to get the barrel link lined up with hole where the slide stop goes.

There's also some good videos on YouTube, just search for 1911 disassembly.

Do you have pics of this navy1911? Hopefully you have resolved the situation. If its a 1911, its got a plunger or it would most likely malfunction after the first shot, if you could even get a shot off without the spring just coming through the hole beneath the barrel if this is the problem you are describing. It could have a full length guide rod? I don't know any RIA pistols with full length guide rods.

I would like to thank Fred for posting this thread and all those that answered it. I recently purchased a Mil Spec 1911 from Springfield. It had been some fifty years since I had handled one, thanks to my Uncle Sam and the U.S. Army. I HAD FORGOTTEN HOW TO
FIELD STRIP THE PIECE. Old age is a wonderful thing.......

Anyway, thanks to you I watched the video and it all came back to me. Even the sweet sound of my Platoon Sergeant's voice, which sounds very much like my wife's voice discussing the honeydew list.

In the Navy, I had to qualify on the .45 for a repel boarders general quarters duty. But the armorers did all the disassembly and cleaning.

Just lucky, I guess. I too, looked at the youtube videos when I finally got my own .45.

Broke my Taurus 1911 down ,cleaned it , reassembled it with no problem . It was my first time for a 1911 . Guess I was lucky , It's pretty much like breaking down my P89 .
Now I can't wait to go get it dirty again .........LOL!!!!!!
