Hi folks,
This is my first post in the Enfield forum. I am looking for a bayo for my fathers rifle, would make a nice fathers day gift. It is a Austrailian 1917 #1 mk3. I don't really know a whole lot about Enfields. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!!
P.S. Or i guess I would be looking for any Austrailian accessories from that time period.
Well... One of my patrons @ the bar is from Austrailia. He said that they are a dime a dozen there. His daughter is going to mail me a few. My father is going to be sooooo happy!!!!!
well........ My friend came through!!! The bayo is in the mail and on its way from Australia!!!! Bayo is free I just have to pay him back for the shipping. It might just make it in time for fathers day!!!!
Sorry Farmer. I gave it to him before I took any pics. I will be stoping by there tomorrow. I will take some pics then. I also gave him a bayo for his Yugo SKS. Along with someother Yugo Milsurp goodies. Leather ammo pouch, cleaning kit, banjo oiler and pouch. I will post the pics in a few days. :-)
Well.... some unfortunate news.... I remembered some of the markings on the blade, so I figured I would see what I could find on the net. :-( Its a Wilkinson so it was not made in Aus. I just called my dad to break the news. He said he doesnt care. He is just happy to finally have one, and that I had it shipped from Aus. is good enough for him..... So this great page that I found says that they did manufacture bayos in Aus. so the search goes on. Although he said he doesnt want another one I will keep looking! I will still post pics of it soon.
Wilky's are cool, i know it doesnt "match" the aussie rifle but much of the kit supplied to the diggers came from anywhere, i mean they might have gotten a rifle issued at home but got a new bayo in egypt that was made in india, so not many soldiers had a full kit from home.

I'm into gun control -
I always use both hands!!!!!!!
I took me a while... here are some pics. I should have took some pics of it on the gun. I borrowed the bayo for a couple days from my dad to research it. I will post the marking info later.
Milkman, good news, I just happen to know where you can locate an original Aussie Lithgow Bayonet with an Aussie Scabbard, original! That just happens to be up for sale..if you are still interested? Now, first off some info...both are originals, but the numbers do not match! The bayonet was issued to the 2MD( second military divison); the scabbard was issued to the 3MD.....The Bayonet has like 97% of original bluing, original Australian Wood grips that have a couple of nicks here and there. Dated 1919, (the 1913's would have been used in 1917!! ). I'm attaching some pic's, by the way I have sold and shipped Lithgow's back to Australia for around $120.00 plus shipping cost!! For you, since your getting it for your dad, I will let you have it for $100.00 including shipping( U.S. only)! I will be back later this evening. Enjoy the pic's!! If your not interested It will be on eBay in a couple of weeks,,,I am seller holmes2715.
Jerry, I kind of floated the idea of looking for an actual aussie bayo to my dad. He told me "DO NOT spend a penny on another bayo! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the one I have." So I will have to follow his wish and pass on your bayo. Thank you so much for letting me have the first crack at it though! The real kicker is that his name is Jerry also. Thanx again!
