International Harvester made M1's from 1953-1956. According to the serial number info I have, yours was made between 1953 & 1954 (SN range 4,400,000-4,660,000).

HTH,

Dave

riptide- It looks like your particular Garand was made about three of four years after your trip to the Chosen Reservoir. It is still the exact same design and chances are that you have many parts from older M1 Garands that got mixed and matched during cleaning and servicing over the years. The M1 Garand continued in manufacture until April 1957 at Springfield Armory with a total U.S. production of around 5.9 million. Four months later, the M-14 service rifle went into full scale production at Springfield Armory. Thank you for your service in Korea and likely elsewhere while in the Marines. I had the good fortune to have served and worked with Marines here and abroad while assigned to the Defense Department.
