Call Your NY State Senator & Tell Him to Vote Agains SB 4397A!
A sort of coup took place last night in the NY State Senate. Two key Democrats defected to the Republicans (without changing parties yet) and the Democrats now no longer control the State Senate!
There's some chaos up in Albany. The previous Speaker of the Senate has locked himself into the Senate chamber or his office, depending on which news report you want to believe, and won't turn over the keys to the Senate chamber. The attitude of the Republicans is, "So what? We'll convene on the lawn if we have to. Bottom line is, he's out and we're in."
But that does not mean we shooters are out of the woods in terms of getting the bills sponsored by the downstate dipwits pigeonholed or tabled in committee to kill them off (at least for this session). Keep calling your State Senators - there are staffers in the office even after hours, with the situation what it is now - and keep on telling them to vote these egregiously stupid bills down. We can't let up on them until the session is over and finally adjourned, and that won't be for awhile yet. Keep those emails, hardcopy letters and phone calls coming!
