I am sorry for not being clear on the .22lr. It is great for many things, but I would not want to have to use this to hunt anything large nor to defend myself from others bent on doing me harm.

The trailer won't work for the bugout, as it is not strong enough and will surely make a target. I am workling on getting my stuff in line and possibly preposition things along the way. I am not sure if this is a good idea, but what do you all think about caching guns/ammo/food/and clothes at some public land in the sticks? This could allow me to not only carry more fuel, but only carry the minimum for food to get me the next hundred miles down the road.

Neither would I.

By comparison, you are very well prepared for “hunting anything large” or to defend yourself from others bent on doing you harm – including a shootout with the police.
But you won’t be defending yourself against armed attackers if the SHTF. You’ll be one of the armed attackers. It’s what you’re best prepared for.

As for “getting out of Dodge”, you have no chance. You have made three assumptions, all false:
1) You’ll have the transportation
2) You’ll have gas to fuel that transportation
3) You’ll have something “large” to hunt at the end of the trip. Lots of us would like to have something “large” to hunt now and without having to wait for the SHTF.
Right now, you’re best prepared to hunker down where you’re at. Florida’s probably most susceptible to a tidal wave. You couldn’t outrun that in a car and trailer anyway. Look for a nearby concrete office building six stories or higher and make it your evacuation objective.

You’re not the only person who can’t get out of Dodge. There’s a whole bunch of us. I figure I can make it 250 miles before I’m stealing gas simply because if 250 miles is still in the danger zone, it will be evacuated and closed down before I get there. I’ll just be one more schmuck breaking into a gas station as the SHTF approaches. And my 22 won’t save my butt either.

Yes. You could bury a couple of 5 gallon tins of gas but you’ve only added 100 miles to your range. It may work. It may not. None of us know. Anticipating the SHTF situation ain’t easy. In my area, I figure biological. In your area, I see the “big wave”. You play the odds and hope you prepared right. The odds your plan actually fits the real SHTF situation are maybe 5-10%. Otherwise, you become another statistic. I’d probably switch from stockpiling gas and ammunition to stock piling fresh water if I was in Florida. An inflatable rubber raft and fishing gear might work too.
In my case, I actually have a plan if there’s no gas. So long as I survive the first 30 minutes of the SHTF, I put my odds of survival at 30%. But I don’t play fair either.

Baby wipes are a must I have been on deployments when the ships water system goes out and no one could shower or shave for 3 weeks. Baby wipes were the best thing I ever did for myself.
