So I bought this Ishapore from a buddy for $50, it looks like cap, but it seems to go bang easily enough. The gun isn't in terrible shape, but it aint nice at all. It has a lot of paint type stuff on it for some reason(doesn't seem to affect anything but looks). So here are my questions:

1. I have a problem with the gun not wanting to load any ammo from the clip, except for the first 2 rounds, and any round on the left side of the clip when aiming the gun. Does this sound like a clip problem or a problem with the part of the action that loads the rounds from the clip to the chamber? Anyone else heard of his problem?

2. The wood on the gun is pretty tight except for the butt of the rifle(metal plate) which is pretty loose. I really don't think this gun is worth keeping original or anything(may not even be worth keeping), so does any company make better aftemarket stocks and stuff for the Ishapore to make it more comfortable to shoot(like the SKS)?

3. Where can I find a diagram that tells me how to take my gun appart and clean it, and change the sights?

4. What kind of accuaracy can I expect from this gun? I have shot 2 boxes or so through it, and I don't hit the target much, but I am battling a slight flinch problem so when I suck it doesn't mean the gun sucks.

I bought an Ishapore with a cracked stock and put it in an ATI sporter stock. don't have a pic but it looks pretty good. the peeling paint is normal, thats how they were in India, painted I suppose to help in a humid climate. check out Surplusrifle.com for disassembly directions and a lot of other info. mine is 7.62x51 caliber and a good shooter. I load mild .308 ammo for it.

dwrestle, you didn't say if your rifle is a .303, or a .308? Look at gunbroker, or perhaps boyds gunstocks. For $50 bucks, you can afford to spend a little and have a fun and perhaps a accurate old rifle!!

Yeah I use .308 I even seen one in a gun shop that was advertised as .308. I don't think there is a problem using .308. I would use the real deal but I don't have the patience to deal with corrosive ammo. Yeah mine does has a crack in it. Also my clip looks much larger than the ones in the pictures, I think it's a 12 round.

I also wanted to say I bet as far as bolt actions go this must have been a real treat to soldiers, the action seems very fast compared to others I've seen.

Many mag probs are with the two lips at the front of the mag. Quite often they'll get pushed down from loading .
Try bending them up ( very slightly ! ) and check your load/feed until it loads /feeds properly. Also try and find some stripperclips ( properly known as "chargers" ).

Original parts ( buttstocks and a few other goodies ) are available at Numrich , who also uses a schematic diagram for parts , or Springfield Sporters , and IMHO , both reasonably priced.

I'm quite happy with 1 1/2"-2" groups at 100yd in a supported shooting position.
Remember , your lowest sight setting is 200yd . At 50-100 yd , try aiming about 6" low and center , until you find your sweetspot.
