I have one-Very old.Name brand is Western Field-Found out its a 336 made by Marlin for Montgomery Ward-For you younger folks that was a department store.I like it much better than the winchester 94,For accuracy at least.

Mine is marked Foremost. That was the name used for JC Penny stores. It has a gold trigger, stock is patterned like a Glenfield but the forearm is plain. Made in 1971.

I have had a bunch of Marlin 336's and I will get more. I have a cherry 1949 336A right now in 30-30.

got a 336 myself, i love it, it eats just about every handload i feed it including all sorts of cast, best brush carbine out there

Big Shrek, I'll have to dig out my camera, but it's pretty standard. Marlin engraved "wavy" grooves in the top of the receiver to cut down on glare

The .30-30 is my "plinker" after shooting it's big brother, the 45-70!

I thought there were a few guns that were a must... those being a Ruger 10/22, a pump shotgun (any flavor) and a Marlin 30-30. I thought everyone had these three staples??

I have a Marlin 30AS 30-30 made in 1986. I especially like the screws instead of the rivets found on todays models.

I had 2 Marlin 30-30's and traded one for a heavier caliber (30-06 742) and the other one my Dad sold to a friend of his.
To this day I wonder why he did that, though I had stopped useing it. He did'nt need the money. LOL It was a Christmas present from him and Mom too !!! LOL

If you're talking about a 30-30, yeah you can get them lots cheaper many places.

If you're wondering about an 1894 in pistol calibers (357, 45, 44 mag), you can thank the cowboy shooters for driving the prices up on those. About the cheapest I've seen new is around $500

Heck, if it weren't for the Cowboy Action shooters, several ammo calibers would be Discontinued right now...

Although they did pretty much kill Winchester...because we all bought Marlins
