The field ranges and field ovens the US Army used in World War II ran on gasoline. They are reaching the surplus market now. The troops never complained that their hot chow tasted funny because it was cooked on a gasoline stove, any more than campers I know have complained the food tastes funny because it was cooked on a Coleman stove.

Of course, combat troops who've been in the line awhile are so grateful to get hot food they likely wouldn't complain if it smelled like Aqua Velva. But even so, I seriously doubt that using gasoline as the fuel in a stove designed to use it that way is going to affect the flavor of what you're cooking in a pan on a burner very much, if at all.

From what I have read on the camping sites, the unleaded gas used in a Dual Fuel stove burns a bit dirtier, and the stove may need cleaning more often. Otherwise, it shouldn't impart a flavor to the food. I haven't used it yet, just 'Coleman Fuel', so I can't say from experience.
From further reading, it looks like the definition of "White Gas" depends on location too.
Here we use the term for Coleman Fuel.
Elsewhere, it applies to Unleaded Premium Gasoline - especially "Amoco Super Premium", according to some campers.

.
Cyrano, the main reason these gasoline fueled units are coming on the surplus market is the Nato forces change over to a single fuel for all their machinery. (ie. Diesel/JP8).
Keep your eyes on the surplus market if you want a cheap generator, pump, motor-cycle or vehicle.

I have one of those Dual-Fuel single-burner camp stoves, and never noticed any odd tastes when using gasoline. And btw it gets hot enough to melt lead.

Current regs call for US military motorcycles and vehicles to be scrapped, NOT sold in drivable condition - as they aren't DOT legal. A bunch of us Dual Sport guys were hoping the older KLRs would be surplussed - but it ain't gonna happen.....

Jeez your mob is way more mucked up than ours! Does that mean you can't buy the surplus tanks & things either? One of my best offroad bikes was an ex-army 350 Harley. Our MOD sells off almost all it's surplus vehicles & equipment. Everything except arms & munitions are available to the general public.
