I like the CCI Minimags, 40 gr copper hollow point, 1260 fps. I've killed groundhogs at 70 yards with those. See how your rifle likes CCI Stingers, they're an even better load, 32 gr bullet at a published 1640 fps.

|  Neat Round I just Saw that may work nicely...
Just seen these on Sportman's guide tonight.. look really interesting if they work... They're from CCI and called "Quick-Shok"..
32gr @ 1367fps for 149ft/lbs and the bullet is designed to slpit into 3 segments on impact... sounds really neat as I've always heard that three is the magic number for rapidly inducing shock.. wonder if this counts? 50 Quik-Shok 22 Lr 32 Gr., Rifle Ammunition, Quik-Shok at Sportsman's Guide | |

I only use winchester super X in my remmy 597 as it shoots sub moa at 50 meters with that and 1" with CCI minimag (these also have good smack down on possum and rabbit).My favourite to use when I can get it and yet to try it in the remmy is aguila super extra I used to blow away possums and rabbits at 100 yards with that stuff through my old JW15 norinco and it used to spin em around on the spot

CCI minimags in my Buckmark Camper, but my Colt M4 22LR loves the Federal 36gr HP blue box Champions. That rifle is very accurate with iron sites, or red dot, and hella' fun to rabbit hunt.

'kay, practical experience with solid subsonics vs. high-velocity segmented CCI stuff, and the CCI wins hands down. A couple of the shots I took were against moving targets, the third risked ending up somewhere unsafe if I missed Brer rabbit's head, but the backstop for his body was fine. Long and the short... solid subsonic, rabbit got back down his hole (I put another round down after him but didn't quite get close enough in time to grab him and head-shoot him - NOT GOOD). CCI high-speed stuff, bunny got halfway into his hole but went nowhere after that. Head shots to ensure death (and I mean DEFINITE head shots at zero inches) followed within 15 seconds. If I have to take fleeting opportunities in a limited safety zone (but very safe when I'm within it), I'm going for the high-speed fragmenting rounds every time, and if it means I lose dinner then so be it - the primary aim here is vermin control, with dinner a bonus.

I have used just about everything mentioned on this page, and a few that are not. I shoot a Ruger M77/22 with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 Scope. The Ruger really likes the Remington .22 Golden Bullets, and I find that those and the CCI blazers stuff are relatively easy to find. The Federal, 40 grain "Wally-World" ammo it will shoot good also. I find that most ammo, if the shot is placed correctly, will do the trick on Rabbits, Squirrels, and other small game.....Good Luck!

Update on my search for affordable and available .22lr ammo. Federal .22lr 39 grain hollow point "champion" 525 rnd bulk pack, works great in my rifles out to 50-75 yrds or so. This ammo shoots clean and is accurate for hunting.
I have even pegged the 200 yrd gong with my open sighted 67a, with a bit of "hold over"... In my neck of the woods this brick will cost $23.00 or so.
If y'all try this ammo hope you get the same or better results. Andy
