Well,
I got me a new Mosin 91/30 yesterday - a 1934 M91/30 Tula w/ Hexagonal Receiver. The gun is clearly an arsenal refinish and has a matching bolt, receiver & butt plate. The floor plate is unmatched. No cyrillic on the bolt serial. It has been counter-bored. I paid $80 for a really pretty gun.
I cleaned up into "shootable" shape and headed off to the range with me trusty 1942 Izzy 91/30 and my "I'm still a little boy at heart" Savage 22lr. Combined age of these three rifles is over 220 years!!
Da Gunz:

Here is a pic of the barrel markings on the new kid...

One of the reasons I wanted to hit the range this morning was because my order from optics planet of a long eye relief scope and mount is due to arrive tomorrow. I wanted to make sure I scoped the better shooting mosin. Now this is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. My 1942 Izzy has had its barrel floated and is not counterbored. I've done quite a bit of work to "accurize" this puppy.
Here are the results...
My new 91/30 (1934 Tula) is, not surprisingly, off a bit in terms of windage and shoots consistantly right. No big deal, just an hour on the range with a hammer, punch, and a tube of locktite. Not a great shooter, but I should be able to tighten these rather loose groups up a bit with some work on the gun.
All at 50 yards - benched & bagged. 1980s czech surplus.
First - 3 strings of 3 shots...

Following are two 5 shot strings...
Same procedure for the 1942 Izzy 91/30...

I'm going to put a scout scope ala Mike82's thread on the 1942 Izzy. It is a better shooting gun and already looks a bit non-Mosiny due to it's BLO finish. This will give me a decent deer gun when the in-laws drag me into the hills & fields and a super fun range gun.
I'm very happy with the new 1934 Tula - even if it never tightens up it is a very handsome rifle and was worth the $80 even if it turns out to be just wall-decor!
I love me some mosins!
Cheers.
