I'm posting this here because the M1 Garand and CMP coincide with one another.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone can tell if to even order tools, a muzzle gauge and gas plug wrench, if a person has to have joined CMP (like what you have to do to order a rifle) just to get those items or if you only have to join if you want a firearm?
Any help will be appreciated.
FWIW, I placed an order and it was declined on my credit card. When I called my credit card company to ask why it was declined, they said it was actually approved but the problem was, there is/was no dollar amount charged. Which I'd add I was able to confirm at the credit cards website and viewing my transactions.
On CMPs website for my order it says this:
"Thank you for your on-line order. Your credit card has not been charged at this time. Your order will be reviewed by CMP staff prior to final processing and credit card charging".
So again, if anyone can help me out and let me know I'd appreciate it...

Apparently, your order has been accepted, and is in the long line for processing. Your credit card won't be charged until a few days before your order ships. Your order status is most likely labelled "open" or "Processing" if you check the Pending orders link on the e-store. A few days after it switches to final Processing (Which isn't displayed) , your credit card will be hit. My order for the gas plug wrench went to processing quickly but the ammo order said open for almost 3 months. If there's a problem, Customer Service will e-mail you. They are the BEST.
As the sales page says, be patient. The run on rifles, & ammo panic-buying/hoarding has overwhelmed the sales staff.
I ordered 480 rounds of HXP ammo & a gas plug wrench (seperate orders) on 28 Feb & got it just over 90 days later. The wrench got here a day earlier, as it was flown in with the Fedex overnight (Sapce A maybe?). Might take a while, but you'll eventually get your tools. The gas plug wrench fits nicely, & the one I got is solid brass.
PS
The ammo is HXP 69 and it's the nicest-looking of the 4 orders I've gotten over the last 3 years. Not one round lost to corrosion, unlike the HXP 68 I got that had about 40 rounds too corroded to shoot without cleaning it up. IIRC, 10 or 12 rounds are pretty badly corroded.

I think you have to meet all the requirements to order ammo and rifles. The Garand Collectors' Association will fill the requirement for club affiliaition. If you have a CCW as well, you should have no problem even with ordering rifles/ammo:
No, don't have a CCW GD. Live in Illinois. lol But too bad my FOID card didn't require and live fire training.
I'll have to find one other thing besides the membership to the GCA to qualify. That's going to be a tough one.
No CCW, never competed in any competition, no current or past military service, no current or past law enforcement service, no distinguished, instructor or coach status, no FFL or C&R, no completion of a hunter safety course and no certification from a range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity.
But to be honest, that last one, about an LEO witnessing my shooting activity, I might be able to get as aI have been shooting with an LEO a while back and I could probably get him to witness it?

Its on the web site. Club membership and firearms activity is required for firearms purchase. Membership required for ammo, tools etc
Quote:
"Note: Club membership IS required for purchase of rifles, parts, and ammunition.
Club membership is NOT required for instructional publications or videos or CMP memorabilia."
be prepared to wait for those tools. my barrel and barrel vise took 3 months.
but they finally came through. imho their prices are fantastic, but that is canceled by the long wait. i saved 50 bucks on the barrel and could not find a better barrel vice for the m-1, so wait i did.
add: did not have to join or submit any documentation to purchase.

An order is an order. They've been getting TONS of mail and orders every day, and they don't know what's in your envelope until someone can get around to opening and sorting it. So you can't expect a tool order to be processed much quicker than a rifle order. Sure, once it's opened, read and sorted, it should go into a shorter queue than rifle and ammo orders, but it's still gonna take awhile.
If you just want a tool, might be better to order it elsewhere. Which reminds me, I need one too....

GlockMeister-If i'm not mistaken you can use your FOID card as proof of firearms familiarity,I would e-mail them and ask if it's acceptable. The Illinois State Rifle Assoc.is an acceptable CMP affiliated organization.I have found that unless the savings is great that it's a lot quicker to order the tools and books etc.somewhere else.I'm not going to wait 6 months on a tool or book.
Ordering by phone: Customers who have previously provided proof of eligibility may order ammunition, parts, and some other items by phone. If you prefer to order by phone, please call us at 256-835-8455 Monday-Friday between 9AM and 2PM CST. Credit card information required for telephone orders.
There is also a request in force that one not call. (Dunno 'bout you, but the status of my order for ammo dating back to mid-April is hardly an earth-shattering emergency. [grin])

Duh, no kidding.
You can call , never said you couldnt. They asked to keep calls to a minimum so they can keep staff working on other things. Do as you want , just trying to be helpful and keep the machine moving
Well I've seen another muzzle gauge on gunbroker. I just don't know how good it is compared to the CMP one. If it's just as good, trust me, I'll just order it. As for the gas plug, I don't need it but figured as long as I'm ordering the gauge I might as well get it.
As for my FOID card, it said your FOID card can be used, but only if live fire training was done as a requirement of getting it. And in Illinois, it isn't required and I never did it so I don't believe I can use my FOID.
And I saw this "Note: Club membership IS required for purchase of rifles, parts, and ammunition". Again, do the tools fall under the parts category?

I joined the Illinois State Rifle Association and got my C&R to be qualified.

No.
From the CMP E- Store New User Instructions:
"Purchase of CMP training materials, publications, videos, books, tools, equipment & accessories, targets and memorabilia is open to the general public as well as members of CMP affiliated organizations".
