No More 9x18?

I was on my P64 forum earlier today and there is a rumor from a Class 3 dealer out of Arizona that all of the remaining countries that use 9x18 have switched over to straight 9mm and 9x18 ammo will no longer be available. Has anyone else heard of this or is it a rumor not based upon fact.

This is the first I've heard of this. What forum were you on?

At any rate, it doesn't concern me much. I have a pretty healthy supply and I'm set for reloading the mak caliber.

Thats like saying since the commis no longer use the mosin nagant, there will be no more 7.62x54R anymore. Lot of that still floating around a reasonable prices
Wolf, the bear bros., brown'n'silver, will still be making it for us for years to come.

Sounds like some particular company is trying to make a bigger profit margin. Nothing more.

And folks wonder why I reload all of the milsurps that I own and why I do case conversions to make extra brass. Try finding 7.7 jap at reasonable prices. I reload for around $2/box......Cast bullets

Even if our ammo suppliers over in the East stop shipping it to us, which they won't unless the dems make them stop, theres so many surplus pistols here that US manufactures would love to fill the vacuum and cash in on the market. There's already reloading suplies for the 9x18. Reloading for pistol calibers is so frigg'n cheap, quick, and easy.

No more 9x18

Again guys,

I was just curious if anyone else had heard this. I personally also feel with as many 9x18 pistols as there are on the market and in circulation right now, there probably won't be any problem getting ammo at least for a while. As a matter of fact, I am hoping to pickup another 9x18 this next week.
The forum I am referring to is the P64 forum. And the person who heard the rumor does say it came from a Class 3 dealer passing through the area. Most likely you are right and it is just a way to stir up more business.

I've found it's very easy to trim down 9mm Luger cases to make 9x18 Maks. Really not hard at all, just need the dies and correct bullets. The bullets are the hard part to find. I found a source and bought all they had, 'bout 1500 or so.

with all the talk of ammo shortages, 2 days ago the "big brown truck of happiness" dropped off 1000 rds of 9x18 Silver Bear jhp to my door. there seems to be no shortage of that caliber. as far as the Hornandy 9x18, my Makarov is not reliable with that brand but is 100% reliable with Silver Bear or surplus. I haven't tried the Hornandy in any of my CZ 82 s but I'll bet they will shoot it fine.

Hornady works fine in my 4 Makarovs and my CZ82. They won't feed reliably in my PA-63s or P-64s. I use Silver Bear JHP in them.

I have used Federals and Brown Bear in my P64. Both work without a problem. I have not tried Hornady. About all I can get at my local gun range is Federal. The Brown Bear was obtained online.

can you use 380 ammo in 9x18 or is that a myth? I know it is hard to find right now but it will be back on the shelves some day .

Definitely not. It might not make your gun explode, but it certainly won't work, and is otherwise not a good idea.

rondog, how do you get the 9mm brass to function in a Mak? The Mak diameter is .365 and the 9mm is .355. Isn't the case too loose for the chamber?

The #12 Speer reloading manual page 495 tells how to make 9mm luger brass into 9mm Makarov .Basically you trim it to .705 in then use the Makarov dies to expand the neck to hold .364 in bullets and the first firing will form the case to proper dimensions.Hope this helps
