At my stage of life, I only "Bug Out" in the event of absolute catastrophe (Cat Five or something similar), and will be temporary - I will be coming back. I secure everything, including reloading gear, for my return.
Otherwise, it wil be a permanent move, and I would take my reloading gear and supplies.
I voted no... but that's conditional. For an extended BO, I would. For a 72 hour ordeal or whatnot, I would not.
thats the way I see it also. so I don't know which way to vote this one. for a short evac for a few days like a cat 5, no, just a couple of guns and ammo, chainsaw and gas, and non replacables, and lockdown everything else. for a relocation, of course it comes with me.
Since I live relatively close to the ocean, I really should have a BO location somewhere further inland. If there is a meteor big enough to get through the atmosphere and hits the Atlantic, there WILL be a tidal wave the likes of which humans have never seen. I am 18' above sea level. All those who live along major rivers that empty into the ocean need to take heed on this, too. The wave will come up the Mississippi a good ways. Be prepared to move your stuff!
Bug out to me means run for your life! In that case, we grab food, water, clothing, guns and ammo. No time for the other stuff.
If it's a relocation, not an emergency bug out, then there's time to load the other stuff.
If you have ever seen the movie "THE UNFORGIVEN" with Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn, there is a scene when the Indians have the cabin surrounded, and ol' Burt is in there melting toy lead soldiers to cast some bullets. At that point, you had better have your ammo already reloaded, because it's too late to start it then!
I voted no, Ammo allready loaded would be a big advantage over haveing to
reload if you were in a bad way and needed ammo real quick, and like oldjarhead
said, you would have a little extra room for some other important things.

if a big rock smacks the puddle, you might have enough time to put on scuba gear if you think it would help. that wave will be moving at several hundred mph. good luck.
When everything is said and done I plan one having my stuff rigged for a 3 day roll out and have everything else in a storage unit where I plan on going.
I'm gonna point out something to all the folks that think they are coming back to town after a Cat-5 hurricane.
You can't. Not only will the roads be smothered in debris & power lines...bridges out...the cops will usually barracade the entrances to the city & only let in Select Groups...like Aid convoys & military/fire/ambulances.
Don't count on being back for at least two weeks after a Cat 4/5, maybe even longer. And if dumb bunnies like those in New Orleans shoot at rescue personnel...add two more weeks to it.
Once the roads are clear again...and the city has SOME semblance of getting back on it's feet, THEN they let those who left, come back.
Read up on the New hurricane guidelines for FEMA...you'll be amazed what's been implemented since Katrina to deal with the aftereffects of a Cat-4/5. Folks who leave are gonna get a SHOCKER if they haven't been informed & try to come back too early.
