338 Federal?

I bought a Ruger Hawkeye in 338 Federal. It wears a Leuplod vxII 2x7 scope. Love the gun, can get 3/4" groups from it.
I have not used it on game yet. It's been out for 3 years now. Anyone use it on game?

Haven't used the .338 Fed on game, but I have used the .338 Win Mag, it puts em on the ground like lightning!

The .338 Federal has knock-down power similar to the 7mm Remington Magnum, without the flat trajectory. (But without the recoil of the 7 mag)

it is a great rifle on deer size game where you want the great BC bullets and frontal area but W/O all the thump on the shooter end!

This round has gotten some good reviews

although it is a real stretch to call it the .338 Federal implying they either invented or developed the round. Its slightly larger caliber brother (the .358 bullet in a .308 case) has a following of devoted shooters.

It should do well for you. A three-quarter inch group at one hundred yards with this round definitely should make you a winner in the field.

If you are in to handloading you might work toward even smaller groups.

Best of luck with your hunting.
