Since we know the randomwhiteguy hates Rugers, when the SHTF he isn't going to last very long anyway because he doesn't have a "Supremely Viable" 10/22 to defend himself with..Unless he has a .410 with Slugs..

unfortunately in todays sociaty you are probably right randomwhiteguy, most people will shot first and ask questions later... even if the person was medicaly trained and new how to grow food from nothingness, we as a species have a tendence to not trust anything or anyone that seems out of place among our own surroundings...

example: its like when your on your front porch and a strange car goes down your street... what do you do, me, i study the car, watch where it goes, look at the driver see if they are male female, young or old... then i would end up walking back inside and getting my handgun and put it on my hip if the vehicle stayed with in the neighborhood... everything becomes a target if it is unknown to us...

Meeting another survivalist during SHTF is one of those kobayashi maru situations. You spot each other, you're equally armed, you draw.

Do you shoot or not? If you hesitate (as most will do), you could die.
If you shoot on sight, you may kill someone who could be an ally.

You need to survive, but you need allies too.

He/she now knows where you're at, you know where they're at.
You know what they have, they know what you have. Lets face it. It will be a tough choice. Most people don't have the guts to pull the trigger first and know it (if they're honest with themselves).

If it were my family, they'll be covered from at least three different angles by "maiden warriors" who will shoot without hesitation at the slightest flinch.

Alot of it will depend on who the intruding party is too, how they behave under observation, attitude and who makes up the intruding party.

A group of men would be eliminated immediately without warning or hesitation (unless they can be reliably identified). Females will be assessed carefully and families traveling will be looked upon as possible allies and children will never be fired upon. I will identify myself by saying "DRAGUNOV, GUN AND GAME" as I wouldn't want to shoot any of you, or have you shoot at me. I suggest this as an identifier amongst ourselves.

Dragunov, I like your identifier. I also would not fire on anyone under the white flag nor the Confederate Battle Flag unless by their actions they gave me cause to fear for my life or safety.

ok Random I'll be serious, Every encounter will be different and being such you will have to read the situation and make that judgement call, when you see Larmus and myself drinking from your creek are you going to shoot on sight or scan and manuver - taking in the big picture - is it just the two of us ? are we point for a larger group ? howmany firefights do you want to get involved in ? my advise is try to communicate if possible while remaining concealed, trade if you can and kill if you must.
most folks are good people just trying to get along not looking for a fight and they may have items to trade or share that you want. before you squeeze that trigger think about it.

Depends on how bad it gets. There will be those who will shoot you for your rifle if they get a chance even though you are not threatening them. God help you if you pass 3-4 of them and you are alone. Until things stabilize it won't be safe to show your form to anyone.

I'll be the guy wearing a denim jacket with an American flag patch on the right shoulder and a ruger mini-14 in my hand.

Now THATS the best idea Ive heard so far. Just dont forget to have some back up when you approach scannin the area for additonal threats/targets.
Also how will you know when you have someone to inspect?

Thus the reason for implementing a militaristic "advance and be recognized" stance at any location where you and yours are holing up. Always keeping at least one person with a scoped weapon overseeing how things transpire. They'd have the better vantage point to see if things are going to go south before the individuals at the fore front. You'll be able to pay attention to the whole situation rather than focusing 100% of your attention on the person(s) that caused the alarm in the first place. Which reminds me a set of two way radios with plenty of back\up batteries will also be included in my BO gear.

Oh I don't know. It's something that could happen. Personaly speaking I feel if you get to close to me during a SHTF you'll be warned to back off !

The other weapons in my collection would be something know one here would want to recon with.

Actually , it isnt pointless , because it begs to question how will we determine "friendlies from hostiles" in a SHTF condition...

How will you make that determination ?

I've got a better idea, how about we all just say one universal codeword, like "Cosmoline!". And everyone will have loudspeakers they can yell through to say it. And if they're still shooting at you after that, well then it's time for some lead distribution. Then we'll know who is truly from G&G. . lol. Or maybe some kind of G&G shirts? I dunno. I actually think in a SHTF situation Ghillie Suits would be pretty useful. Depending on your environment, obviously. That way you could just avoid firefights alltogether if you really needed to. Then again, not everyone knows how to do this efficiently. Not saying I do. Just throwing that out there.

I agree...People will be looking for water and food eventually and maybe shelter.

Sadly you may have to turn good and bad people away because of your limited supplys.

And this is when the 2nd SHTF can occur, which is protecting your family, food, water and property which includes guns.

For your own survival.
