I hope that we would both be a bit more open-minded than that. I mean I wouldn't shoot someone unless they made malicious movements, comments or whatever toward me. Well, that is unless I put some signs up around some land that said "tresspassers ARE NOT welcome, turn back!"

if i was walkin down the road "armed" and met someone else coming down the road, who was armed as well i would make contact, establish a repore with them, get info and/or give info, exchange tradables if they had some as well and then continue on my way... i wouldnt make any threating moves cause he could be the diversion for a raiding party or for those looking for raiding parties...

Posted by M14 Man "There will be renegades that will kill for your weapon, or kill because they can see you. Let others test the safety of going out exposed."

If you remember the shootout the FBI had in Miami several years ago, the bad guys obtained most of their weapons from people that were out plinking in remote areas and not paying enough attention to what was going on around them. We already have people willing to kill you for your weapon.

When I lived in Texas, I had a conversation with some guys about SHTF
preparations. I was told "When the time comes, we'll just take what we want." Their only preparations were firearms and ammo. They practice too, not all bad guys are inept shooters. And when they say they will just take what they want, they are not only speaking of material things. They are waiting for a breakdown of social order, they are hoping for anarchy and chaos.

I don't want any SHTF scenarios in this country, because it will be ugly.

I'll tell you this, I'm buying a little more rice and beans.
If things happen, and my neighbor comes to me because his 6 year old daughter is hungry and they have no food, I'm not going to shoot them, I'm going to feed them.

And we will get through the rough times together.

This is the frustrating part for me in my modest effort to prepare for emergencies. You can never have enough. I've got enough tucked away for 3-4 months for my family, but I'm like you. I couldn't imagine turning down a neighbor in need, people we hang out with or kids my son plays with. In doing so, my pile doesn't last nearly as long.

I wish everyone would prepare to some extent, but that's not likely.

It makes me want to buy a LOT more and have it if anyone I know needs it. But that's unfairly costly to me.

A real bummer...

It would be best to have a small groups of like minded people with a plan for shtf to look out for each other and have round the clock security for your families and your food and ammo stores. I cant seem to find anyone on the same page with me that wouldent think I was insane but I keep looking. For me a Katrina situation with a large earthquake is likley and it would be nice to have some backup from looters or if they decide to go door to door and try to take my guns.
