I highlighted with chalk. Manufactures mark BNP.

another hallmark has the crown over the letter "N' (which may be the center letter of 'BNP") over the number 54 (indicating a sprcific inspector i suppose)

Crown over BNP is for Birmingham Nitro Proof which is a pressure test to 18.5 tons . This is a required test before being sold to Johnny Public.
Going by the serial number it was made at the Royal Ordnance Factory , Maltby

Either walnut or beech which is a blonde colored wood.
Most Mkll No4's I've seen are beech
