Hey guys, I finally got my Hunter Ed. Certification in order as well as my Hunting License recently, and was wondering if any of you have the Annual Public Hunting permit. It's $48 and I read on another site that the majority of the locations are in the Panhandle, as well as Far West Texas which would be good for me because that's basically where I'm located. Can anyone confirm this? I'm aware most of Texas is privately owned but I don't know anyone who actually owns land.

I'm guessing you mean the type 2 permits. i have used them here in east Texas.they have a few disadvantages. it's first come first serve on hunting spots.you can't set up stand, feed.but all in all its beater then not hunting.check on national forest in your area it free

The last booklet I saw a couple of years ago really restricted the use of many of the areas to archery or shotgun only. I haven't checked it out this year though

Ah, thanks for that link. It was extremely helpful.
I'm guessing unless it directly specifies in the special regulations section of the map that I can't use a rifle, then I can go ahead and take one? Is this correct?
All I want to do is hunt some small game, with my .22 .
Everywhere in my immediate area specifically states shotgun only. Which I currently am lacking.
