game trail cam????

Hey,
I am not asking for brand preferences or suggesions.....I know everyone has their favorite brands or the ones that they hate......

I am going to have to get a couple of new game cams this year and I would like the IR type, but they are pretty $$$$$ for a good one.

I was wondering if staying with the tradational flash type for less $$$$ is just as good or do they really spook the deer and you do not get good shots or chase them off with this type.

Which gives better pics, flash or IR? If I can get them I will prob. go with the IR, but if the flash is just as good for less $$$ then I may go that way to save the $$$ in this economy.

Thanks.

stealth cam has one with IR, and 5megapix for under $120. i bought my dad one for Xmas, and it seems to take pretty good pictures.

In all honesty, the stealth cameras stink. I have yet to read any good right ups on them. Get a copy of the August issue of Peterson's Hunting. They did a right up on trail cameras and that should get you headed in the right direction.

I have a Cuddyback Capture with a flash, and it works great. I've got pictures of squirrels, rabbits, foxes, and deer with it. They also have a IR model and it only cost about $220. They set up in seconds and go all season on 4 batteries. I've seen no signs of deer being scard by the flash, but I live in a settled area, so deer are used to lights and people.

I chose to spend the extra $20 to get the cuddyback capture IR instead of the regular cuddy back capture. I figured for $20 more i would not have to worry bout spooking them deer. I don't think the flash would spook the does and fauns but what about those big bucks? They live to get that big for a reason, they are smart. If a big buck walks by my trail cam at night i don't want it to get spooked away and not be around come hunting season. so for $20 bucks, why not?

Well, one disadvantage to the IR model anything is they have a shorter range. The cuddyback Capture IR is good for 30' at night, the flash model is good for 50'. Besides, if you're seeing the deer at night, how will you be able to shoot them? Most of my pictures from night time encounters are well after dark or well before first light. Seeing a buck near my stand at 10PM does me no good were I hunt.
