Some brands are built for both. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is the sizing die.
45 Colt dies would probably work better for both. Just get a Lee Factory Crimp die for 454 Casull.

you may run into some trouble depending on the manufacturer. i have a set of lee dies in .357 mag and .38 spl and i think the decapper/resizer is marked as the same die but the decapper itself is a different length and set at a different height. the charging die is different i beleive but the seater may be the same and i see know reason that cranking down deep on a .454 die would be a problem in your case unless it has a built in crimp.

The only die in my Lee .454 dies not marked .45 Colt, is the bullet seating die, which is marked .454. But I bet you can screw the bullet seating adjustment down enough to use it. Not real sure it would crimp it, though. Well, I have a separate die set for .45 colt, and the correct FCD's for both.

The only difference, the .454 case is heavier meaning if you use .454 dies you have a loose fit with bullets resizing .45 cases. If you crimp, and you better, that is taken care of.The only other problem,I don't like readjusting dies. ,,,sam.

I did not realize you could shoot 45lc out of a 454. I thought the bullets were smaller on the 454.

same diameter bullets. The 460 S&W will shoot all 3. Another instance of goofy cartridge naming.

Nothing about the .454 case being LONGER?

I have a set of dies marked .45 ACP/.45 Colt/.454 Cassul. I also have a set of dies marked .40S&W/10mm. The bullet seating dies need to be adjusted for the shorter cartridges. I've used the .45 dies on the ACP and the Colt, and I suspect they'd work well with the Schofield. I've never owned a 454, so I don't know.

Hmm great info. The 10mm revolvers will fire 40sw, I know that. Its only revolvers that can change length of cart, can't do it with pistols.

I guess I just assumed that when I said I didn't like adjusting dies you would assume they were different lengths,.45 Colt-1.280",.454cas- 1.380",.460S&W-1.800" . ,,,sam.

And .44 mag or .44 special will both fire .44 Russian. Probably so will a .460.

how do the same dies work for the rimmed .45 long colt and the rimless .45 acp?

The rimmed part is in the shell holder it doesn't resize anywhere near the rim or head. If the outer diameter is the same the same sizing rings would work.
