Thumbs up RG4895 Radway Green powder - range testing finally

I dropped by the nearby Public Range this Saturday morning at around 6AM. I had just gotten my Chrony set up, when my buddy from work arrives - we were planning on testing milsurp loads. He informs me it's "Hunter Safety Day" - ah crap! I started packing stuff away. He decided to try a few shots before the HS guy ran us off the range. BUT..... 8AM soon came, and NO hunter safety guys! COOL! I set back up, and we did our testing.

I was shooting two loads from my Spanish FR8 short rifle.
1) 42 grains of W748, with a 165 grain SP-BT. Shot about a two inch group a couple inches high at 50 yards - old eyes. At this distance I get a good consistent sight picture. Recoil was moderate. Chambering, function and extraction/ejection was fine.
2) 44 grains of RG4895 under a 150 grain Hornady FMJ-BT. Very similar grouping, and fine function. Not much to choose between these two loads.

About 8:30, another guy shows up - a new handgun owner trying out his pistols. We had a good low-stress morning, and we were all gone by 9AM. Beautiful weather too! Wish I had taken more guns and ammo.
My guess is that the ammo shortage caused the HS folks to cancel their training this month. AND.... all the other shooters knew it was HS day. So, we had a 'private range'! Can't beat that.

The ammo shortage is affecting Armed Guard training too - they now require students to bring their own 150 rounds of ammo - either .38SPecial, .380ACP, 9mm Luger or .40 SW. NO .45ACP or .357Mag allowed - danggit.

Doing mine tomorrow. Unfortunately my shipment of .224" bullets did not arrive in time so no Saiga .223 firing will be happening. Will be firing 7.62X54R and .303 Brit. Already fired my .270 for good results last week.

Here is my 7.62X54R with the RG4895. The high and right shot was the first with a cold barrel. The low and right was me.

I think this stuff is good.

Though I did get a pound of IMR 4895 from texnmidwest for a swap for some prepped 30.06 brass for his new Garand.

Think he has a new 1903, too. But he didn't bring it this trip.

Looks good. Just out of interest, what's the distance between the concentric circles on the target?

And I am fully convinced this stuff is just as good as IMR 4895.

Buy up as much as you can while it's available, it won't come your way again. It was sourced from demilled RG ammo. RG surplus ammo is getting in very short supply now.

Latest range test. K98 8mm Mauser. 196 grain FMJ with 44.0 grains RG4895. 50 yards, iron sights, 5.5" target.

Why must I always have that one flyer that wrecks the group?
