And Yet Another Wisconsin Range Trip

Yep, met up with texnmidwest, his buddy Jim, and his roommate, who name I am afraid I forgot. The day was absolutely gorgeous, temp right around 74m sunshine and white fluffy clouds. Plus I accomplished pretty much all I set out to do.
1. Got texnmidwest some reloading supplies. Traded him 140 something prepped 30.06 brass for a pound of IMR 4895. Sold him an almost unused spare tumbler I had and 500 .311" 147 grain FMJBT projectiles.

2. Tested my reloads using a new powder I picked up 8 pounds of for cheap from Wideners. Shot both 7.62X54R and .303 Brit with them. Achieved just about equal results from them from my regular H4895 reloads. (New powder is RG 4895, which was $109 + shipping)

3. Using two identical targets side by side, shot one with my M44 with bayonet extended, and the other with the bayonet folded. Yes Virginia, my POI moved approximately two inches to the right at fifty yards with bayonet folded, so believe it when they tell you it does shift. And yes, my sights are set for the bayonet extended.

4. With hammer and brass punch whacked my 91/59 front sight to shoot dead center. It was shooting to the left.

All in all, another great day. (Though what day at the range isn't?) One of these days we will have to set one of these meets up with a couple weeks notice, so we can get some more people to show up. This is the first time I went up there, and no Larry. I could just see a whole line of us firing our Mosins at the 100 yard range.

A whole firing line firing their Mosins at once? It would sound like a Soviet firing squad! To say nothing about scaring all the game out of the county....

I couldn't help but laugh when I offered to let you try some of my reloads for your Enfield, and you thought that was a perfect time to let Jim try your Enfield out.

CHICKEN!

Knock it off, you two!! Don't make me stop this car!!

You guys had a great day for it!! I'd have (again) loved to head over to Eagle, but we had a motorcycle maintenance day planned and with the end of the riding season approaching way before the end of shooting season, I have to get in what I can on weekends.

I'm off to a Guzzi rally this weekend and a Adventure Rider gathering (drunk) the following weekend (no Mom, I don't drink and ride) and am trying to enjoy the weather before the bikes have to be put away for the season.

You know what would be REALLY COOL!!! If Tex's brother were up in the area for a weekend shoot!! Double the trouble, double the fun!!

Anyway, the range over there at Eagle's a great place and I hope to head over sometime with you guys!!

What happened was I forgot to take my pain medication before this little trip. Friggin' knees (Both have had knee replacements) was paining me bad. I had poor tex humping new targets out for me during cease fires.

By the way, thanks, tex.

Paper, get them cycles rode up so you can get to shooting with us! Maybe take a ride out to Eagle to shoot! Kill two birds with one stone!

And watch out....I have been telling these guys about the CMP shoots out in Beloit! We all just might show up and out number the Garands with Mosins!

Gannie, I finally got that case out of the SKS. It looked all corroded and icky! I shined a flashlight into the chamber....well, thar's yer problem! Cruded up with laquer! A good hosing out with brake cleaner and a chamber brush should clear the problem. Surprised me, the bore is pretty good shape for the chamber to be in such bad shape. Oh well, I will clean it up and awaaaaaayyy we go!

One final note, I detail stripped my Tikka m91 with the 1940 barrel. Needed to clean out the magazine real well. I took the stock off and looked at the tang date! The receiver was made in 1896!!!!

Was this a new SKS or something? Order you a broken shell extractor yet? I had one for my .303, popped that bad boy out like nothing was wrong.

Nope, he said they were from his buddy Jim.
On the other hand, that means my reloads were good enough to get them close together.
