Dillnger's Derringer

I saw today that Dillinger's Derringer went for 95,600.00. What caliber was it?

Didn't know he had one--thought it was a Colt's .380 he carried for a pocket pistol.

I have a history book titled Dillinger Days

It does not mention a derringer although that certainly does not mean he did not carry one at some point over the several years he was on the run.

This news article is just the first I have heard of a derringer and Dillinger.

If I remember the story correctly, whcih I should since the American Rifleman just did an article on it, when Dillinger was killed he had a Colt Model 1908 in .380 ACP and a spare magazine in his pocket. Was this derringer found in his effects, or did some reporter with a taste for alliteration invent a clever headline because he's too dumb to know the difference between a derringer and a pocket pistol like the Colt 1903/1908 series?

Okay, now I get it. Dillinger once owned that .41 caliber Double Derringer. He wasn't carrying it when he was killed by Melvin Purvis's squad outside the theater.

Probably a Remington over and under derringer. It was chambered in .41 caliber and very popular even into the 30s.

The modern Bond derringers are basically better made sturdier versions of the same gun in more effective calibers.

In this day and age of the Glock and the XD I carry a Bond everywhere.

I don't see why Dillinger wouldn't do the same in the day and age of the 1911 and the 1905 .380.

A good hide out weapon never goes out of fashion, no matter what the trendanistas want to beleive.
