Thumbs up A-10 Warthog that made it thru with flying colors

I am attaching a link to show the results of the most unbelievable photos of a damaged A-10 Warthog I have ever seen.
One of my sister-in-laws was in charge of an A-10 recon wing and said she has never seen so much damage on one. She said she is not surprised it got back okay. It is the toughest bird in the sky.

This plane is shot up like never seen before and made it thru with flying colors. The young lady piloting this beast is so proud of just being able to fly it.
This is the greatest tribute to the dedication of our ground crews skill at keeping these birds in the air so that when they do run into trouble they get thru.

Here is the link.

feel free to share it as well

Not taking anything from this post or report, the 23rd had one shot up a tad worse out of King Fahd in 91

She was a tough gal to fly it damaged in manual reversion.

A-10 survivability

Thanks for the posts and comments.

Nearly every time anybody talks about the A-10 getting shot up they almost always end saying something like this -
"You won't believe how bad it was shot up and the pilot still made it home."
A testiment to our men & women in the armed forces, taking care of their post.
Wheather it is the mechanic, the fuel delivery troops or the crews keeping the air in the tires. Every one of our servicemen & women support and depend on each other.

God Bless our troops!

They willing to go into harms way for you and me - 12,000 miles away without fail or hesitation. They are the proof that americans are the greatest people on this earth.

I am one of 8 children - 6 served in the military, my sister married a Marine during Vietnam.
My Mother, Father and Stepfather all served in WWII.
All 4 of my grandparents served in WWI.
I come from a very long line of patriots
A patriot I am, and I am proud of it.

There will always be one shot up worse, but we remember the dedication, the miracles and the mercy.
Keep sending the pictures and memories

I may have a bootleg pic or two. We weren't allowed to take photo's, albeit some of the authorized types were able to. I don't think they wanted us taking pics of the busted up Scuds.
A couple of our losses in 91. We were the first OA-10A FAC unit in the AF

I've heard they can pretty much still fly even if part of one of the wings was shot off or if one engine fails. I read it somewhere about the wing but I don't remember as to just how much could end up missing before it couldn't limp home. But I though it was something like a 3rd or one wing or the other?

Anyone have any info on this?

I also wanted to add, "she" did one hell of a job getting it back to base.

Great post. One of the most "bad" aircraft out there. You can keep the high tech fighters, the Warthog is the best.

When I was in the Infantry, we thanked god when we heard A-10s coming in and insurgents said their last prayers.

The A-10 is truely a ground support aircraft, that unlike the F-16, can actually fly slow enough to identify targets visually. It seems like every 5 years or so the "Fighter Mafia" tries to get the A-10s retired and they are always the last aircraft to receive upgrades, but the Thunderbolt keeps on serving.

Hey, what do you expect? Republic always builds them tough. I love the Warthog, aka the Thunderbolt II. Republic didn't assign it that name by chance.

It's always been one of my favorites.
Here's another tough bird.

America has always had the reputation of building tough warbirds. Google B17 damage for example.

Here's a couple:

That being said, the Warthog is one of my favorite planes. A flying, tank-shredding platform that was designed to dish it out AND take it.
