In my neighborhood about 50% of the vehicles are already immobilized...

Well, first thing you need to start doing is communicating with your neighbors, if you can't get that started, you are in trouble! Find a water supply, get food supplies organized, designate a place to crap - basically just like camping!

I'd recommend anyone interested in long term survival find the "Foxfire" series. These books explain how things were done and made when "handmade" was the way of life. I don't remember when the first printing of the series began, but I believe my introduction to them was sometime in the early 80's. Interesting reading if nothing else.

I would start by 'weeding' out the assholes in the neighborhood, then do all I could to forage for food, provide security and help with shelter for the good folks.

we cant have an open season on idiots. we would loose quite a few people here in SC.

when I lived near Wash DC, an open season on A- holes would have left it a wasteland.

at least here in SC, they may not be the sharpest group, but they are very nice people.

21st century technology would still be around, but less common and without power. Utilities and resources would become more decentralized and rationed to basic needs, while working appliances would be centralized and rationed. Local governments would become more significant as state and fed govs would be less able to be involved in local affairs.

I build fish and hunting camps. Four come to mind. Here while back we had a problem with the next door neighbors crackhead's son. We ran his history and were shocked. It tightened us up. We are in the suburbs, every body knows one another, I've done work for surrounding neighbors and we are pretty tight. There are four republicans and five democrats, but we all know we've been fooled. I hunt with my neighbor two doors down. I keep on reminding everybody to stock up and plant a garden. Three have. One owns a farm.
They are not glazing over when I say that anymore, now it's what did you put back this week?
