I heard about that today and I have ZERO sympathy for them. I hope we don't waste a dime of taxpayer money trying to help them.
Here's a tip...if you don't want to become the center of an international incident while held prisoner/hostage by a radical regime/nation, STAY THE FUG OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY!
Rant off.
Idiots.
Rant really off.
Percocet has me in rare form.

I don't know all the details, but I think you're being a little hard on them. Judging from the last name I saw for one of them, they're probably of Kurdish ancestry, which is why they were in the Kurdish region of Iraq to begin with. And it's easier than you might think to go around the wrong hill in rough terrain, and wind up across a border.
I'll go ahead and feel sorry for them, until we get some better information.
i've gotta say with all due respect to whatever their situation is, they probably weren't thinking. honestly how many times do you go visit the relatives and wonder about driving into the wrong part of town by mistake. same thing, larger scale. now as to the choices they made approaching middle of no where and potentially seeing signs saying "This is Iran we don't come to your house, don't come to ours" i remain silent...
They made a very poor 'judgement call' in going hiking in a region filled with strife and warfare. Some people actually feel they have a "constitutional right" to go where they wish - but these nations DO NOT recognise OUR 'rights'. It's just a bad thing to do. I pity their families, but now these three have to deal with their poor decision.
no matter what your ancestry, you dont go on vacation to a country that is in the middle of a war, and then you dang sure dont accidently wander into iran where Americans are their second least favorite people in the whole world. dont spend one cent of taxpayer money trying to save these morons.

Where's your sense of adventure? A couple buddies and me are going to go deer hunting at the Khyber Pass this fall. Some I guy met on the internet promised to be our guide. He says his uncle Maulana Fazlullah will give us a place to stay. You want in?

I just booked a fishing trip to the Chosin Reservior on line. I can't wait. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to see some of the missile tests while I'm there...
